So what gives? I notice a lot of people here don't like oscars but I cannot figure out why. I don't believe they are overhyped...they are great fish to own. They are a large cichlid and I know a lot of you keep large cichlids. Is it the kind of people they attract? How common they are? I just don't get it, I mean...I know there are other cichlids out there that are just as great but that does not mean oscars are not worth owning or even likeing.

When I was much younger I bought one after being told that it would be fine in a tank of small community fish. The results were predictable. It was fine, the other fish were snacks. I was about ten and very upset. I have not liked them since.

oscars are cool but they are often percieved to be very common fish and thus not
very exciting. If i have space i will keep an oscar or 2 again.

ive always liked oscars just dont have enough space for one yet

Thats fine if ya don't like em...there are fish I don't care for and I have no idea why so at least you have a reason. What about other large cichlids?

I like some of them and some small ones to, I tend to like the more enlongate ones like pike cichlids.

Im turning my dads 150 into a oscar breeding tank tuesday night

pics will follow

As far as I'm concerned, Oscars are the "dogs" of the water. They each have their own different personality, just like a puppy :)
