The deal with oscars

If there was one thing I did not or do not like about these fish it is probably how common they are or the people they attract. Thats not the fishe's fault though. Many people overlook other cichlids because of the oscar hype when many others are very similer or just as great. I still love oscars though.

I like oscars but they are just too common. I like to try and keep harder to find fish such as datinoids or Electric blue dempsey's. I will probably own a oscar again when I can find space for another tank. The wild oscars look different but do they get ugly when they get bigger?

I've kept oscars in the past and enjoyed them very much. It is no concern of mine if a fish is rare or common, I just keep fish that appeal to me regardless.

Gotta love em' I always have them, because when I get rid of them to make room
for something else, I end up getting more! Keep in a group of 5 -6 they
will stay lively.

Ya i dont understand y ppl dont like em. I think it is cool how personal they are. mine is my fav fish but just cause he is my first fish. I do prefer The Anceint fish myself and cats but oscars are still cool

the only oscars i've ever come to known are the ones that my father used to keep. back then i was very young and was affraid of them. cos i see how aggresive they were when he feeds them. till now, i've never tought of keeping them.

maybe i'm too scared of them.

My biggest problem with Oscars is their tendancy to get hole in the head. I hate hole in the head. I did keep one to about 12 inches without HITH before I traded him for a bag of dog food when I left the hobby for awhile. He was a nice fish. I have never seen one in a pet shop over 4 or 5 inches without HITH. I do like their personality. But when it comes to personality and interaction nothing beats my 14 inch Dovi, and no sign of HITH.
