Well my buddy Slick Rick the one eyed LMB died today. I caught this guy in the early spring and only decided to keep him after I noticed he only had one eye. The other eye had skin grown over it. The grown over eye had all the markings just like the rest of the bass's body. But it moved like an eye should. It was weird and unique.
Well I had some problems with his tank on friday. I noticed that he was laying on the bottom and very pale and was hardly breathing. So I began to check the water and found that the PH level had dropped from the usual 8 to around 5 or so. The ammonia and nitrite were zero and the nitrate was about 30-40. So i did a 90% water change and he bounced back with in 12hrs. But even though he acted normal his slime coat had a whiteish look to it. And he had some redness at the base of his tail. So I put some salt and fungus meds in the tank and he lasted 2 days. I guess the large PH fluctuation caused to much stress on him. Or what caused the PH problem did him in.
He did have a hard life. He lived in my feeder tank with about 300 or so minnows at any given time. And had to endure med treatments with each new batch of minnows. The tank got 75% water changes every 2 days because of the large bio load.
I got him in late April at about 2" and he died today at 10.5". He was around 1.5" thick. So in 6 months he grew 8.5".
first pics are after death and then one sad shot of his tank and then from when i first got him.
Some of you may remember IDing him for me.
