1. i need to start a roach colony(but i dont have anything to eat the big guys)
2. i cant find a freakin job(im 17 so its not horrid)
3. im running out of my back up funds

the feeding sched hasnt changed but im in a really bad position

good thing im applying to some more jobs today..

So far not yet.
I breed most of my own food ( fruit flies, Ispopods). I am setting up a colony of roaches for some of the bigger frogs.
Only thing I have noticed so far is the drop in price that people want to pay. Use to be no problem to sell a frog for $60-70. Now people dont want to pay even $30 for the frogs.
I have curbed my buying a little bit if that counts

hasnt really affected me as of yet. works real busy and looks to stay that way. ive been working overtime to finance buying new reptiles. ive acctually bought more this year that i have in a long time.

im sure ill see a difference when im buying more live food though.:irked:

Yeah I can relate to that. Ahhh the good old days, how I miss them.

You don't have to feed the big roaches, you keep them for breeding.
But I think your tomato frog could take down a large adult B. dubia without any issues.

i cant afford to vary my pets' diets as much as i used to

I have a surplus of breeding rats so I'm looking at buying another snake. I am also buying more fish. So far this isn't affecting me.

well i think its about time to share our sob stories of how this crazy economy has affected us as caretakers of things out of the norm.
I'll start by saying that it has made me change my feeding schedule around quite a bit. i used to to regular feeding every 2 weeks with the little guys and lizards getting what ever they needed in between. now i feed as needed only and some times have to go an extra 3 or 4 days before getting the food. i average only 15 to 20 hours a week now and live in cali so unemployment is slower that a snail taking a leak. please share how the job market and economy has affected you.

Around here there is a farm that sells chickens . The guy who works there told me they have never sold as many chickens to reptile owners as he has in last 2 yrs.

People drive even couple hours away to buy them .
I assumed more people were getting big reptiles but now I see it probably is that a live chicken there is cheaper than the cost of several rats not to mention bigger.

I only have 6 snakes one eats pinkies rest eat mice so buy from same place as usual and shipping has gone up but 6 snakes its no big deal.

I've noticed crickets prices in the last year have gone up in the pet stores around me. They use to be a dozen for a $1 now you only get 10 for $1. Cursed cricket inflation. :irked: I'm glad the one place near me sells 250 crickets for $8 bucks.

Crickets here are 6 for $1 and only 1 pet store within an hour drive carries them. The wax worms are sold all dead .

Pet stores in S.Florida as far as live food goes be it reptile or fish truly suck.

That's ridiculous! They're friggin crickets! I guess that pet store's cricket supply is blessed by the Pope or something.
