I was just wondering after seeing about a half dozen or more leaving the hobby threads if this might be in relation to the economic state right now.

I know that I am in the middle of putting together a second 125 and due to the fact that my work has cut all to overtime. (i used to get 16 hours or more a week) It is taking me alot longer to get it set up then I thought it would but b/c of whats going in it, it has to be up by the end of july.

also my g/f who works at the same place as i do is in a similar situation she bought a 54 corner tank and is waiting to buy the stand for it (last thing she needs) and b/c of the lack of OT she had to put it on layaway and does not know if its going to take the whole 6 months to pay it off or what.

So how has the economy efffected your fish keeping if at all?

P.S. I did not know if this should go here or in the lounge so I thought i would put it here in the general aquaria board b/c it is fish related.

I just got a new car and have to pay it off. Also, the reason for getting the car was because I totaled my old one and it was completely all my fault so now my insurance is horrible.

Also gas is at 3.59 for regular where I live so it's getting hard to try and save up and pay things AND keep up with my fish.

economy? the economy is doing great what are you talking about?

this is a (very)multi national forum you're going to have to secify....

gas is now 3.79 for regulat and i drive a '95 cherokee and a '68 charger... i know how bad gas is...

so far nothing has downgraded, but progress has slowed

Lets just say for the sake of it the economy ANYWHERE you know b/c we are a multi-national forum;)

And i'm right there with ya on the gas prices it is getting hard to want to go buy feeders or ANYTHING when all the good LFS are at least 30min one way which ends up meaning if I go to the LFS and spend 50$ the gas that is takes me to get there and back is about 15-20$ so my trip ends up being about 70$ for 50$ worth of stuff. I'm finding it harder and harder to go to the store unless I NEED filters, feeders, anything misc.

So needless to say once my 125 is set up I won't be buying a new tank for a while unless my work picks up and I can get some OT

i would think the gas prices increase the fish prices bc they gotta get shipped here. i know i had to sell my dream truck bc i couldny afford the gas bc i drive alot for work, i have seen a increase in prices alot at the store as well, noting to big where i can feel it but if it keeps up ill be in some trouble lol

I understand the fact that youwere upset at the lady b/c its not you that made the prices go up. I think that alot of ppl are getting testy about how short there dollar is falling compared to last year.

I am just glad that the last tank I bought was on sale 1/2 off so i pais about 160 for a 125

Gas price is killing the insides of my wallet. The real estate and mortgage market is so bad, that I can't get a bigger house for more tanks. Gotta pay the bills and save for a wedding!! New set ups and upgrades are kinda put on hold........ Well, they are taking longer than I wanted.

I'm doing my part to help spur the economy on by buying a new 350.:D

Hasn't made too big of a change other than cutting down the frequency of shop hopping. At work, fish sales seem to be getting higher daily. Maybe people see it as a cheaper alternative to other pets or a more cost effective way to commune with nature.
