The economy and YOUR fish keeping?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the state the economy is in is killing me...

I don't visit the LFS very much now to save on gas. Not buying too many fish as well. Doing what I can to cut some costs down.

Times are rough! I dont visit lfs either but thats cuz I dont want any impulse buys. craigslist has dozens of tanks for sale each day, and not many buyers. Fish forclosures!!!

That price is what I paid yesterday for diesel...all the difference between the US price and the UK price is TAX! Its no coincidence are cars are more economical, lol!!!!

I'm thining out the stock to turn one FW tank into a SW tank. But I have to say out here in CA where houses start at over half Mil. I need to be careful. It isn't as easy as it used to be to sell a house.. not due to the economy, but due to the banks knee jerk reaction. Now people can't get approved to get a loan.. thus eliminating alot of potential buyers making things worse. THANKs BANK OF AMERICA :(

To all the Limmies out there :) Your economy is not based around vehicle transportation, nor is your island 3,000 miles across. My wife is English, and she didn't "Get it" till she lived here. Do you realize it takes 5 days to drive across and close to 6hrs to fly coast to coast?

Where do you think you could fly to in 6hrs out of heathrow? So no we're not complaining and being "American Centric" Sometimes you blokes just don't get it till you actually come here and spend some time..... and yes I know petrol is $6-7 a gallon in the UK :)

And not to mention you have the tube system in London.. a incredible mass transportaion system.. nothing here comes close other than maybe NYC's system. So also keep that in mind. WE just can't jump on the tube.. it doesnt exist in the good O'l USA. SF's transportation is worthless for 80% of the population.

still saving for a fish stand, and until i get the stand, my own upgrade project is on hold;
along with upgrades to new filters. purchasing power seem to dwindle every day.

Sucks.

I hope that the U.S. economy starts to look up soon! My favorite local fish place has recently closed down, now i have to drive about a half hour to get to another decent place. I feel reeally bad for them, it is very discouraging to see good people who love aquatic life as much as you do have to close down.
i work for an independent music store (NOT music and arts!!) and things have been pretty bad for us too. my boss has been beginning to cut down on my hours, being a student who travels to and from school twice a day, i can't afford to drive around all weekend looking for "that fish" or "that certain filter". I have found it muuuch easier to buy online.
i still can't help feeling guilty for not supporting the guys around me, who know my name, my fish, my equipment, hell! these people even know about the terrible city water i get! It used to be much easier for me to pay the extra price for the mom n' pop service, but i just can't do it anymore.

if i could put as much money as i put into my gas tank into my fish tank,..i would have very spoiled fish!
