THE FX5 CHALLENGE!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm sure F1 wouldnt mind lol.

And I would welcome F1 if he lived close enough. I live in a small town close to what is called the Yaak in the far nothwest of montana near the border with Canada if you have heard of or watched mountain men on TV. It is 100 Miles to the nearest real fish store. The FX5 is a unique filter to setup and I did indeed end up having some faulty parts. It is probably one of the last filters you want leaking all over your living room (it moves some water). In addition I see no reason for ANYONE to make snide or rude remarks when if you do not like a post don't read it or at least don't respond unless you have a valid reason. For me these forums are my mentor and I find for the most part some people know a whole lot more about setting up or trouble shooting these filters than a girl reading out of a book at the helpdesk. I have read many times that allot of folks have issues at first getting some eheims setup it's all in the persons perception of the setup instructions provided with the product.

Hey all I'm saying is if you've ever set up an xp4 you'd be a pro at a fx5! It's all good, not trying to diss op, I have respect for him. I guess when I'm having such a good experience with fx5 and I here all these hate threads it just makes me a little :screwy:

I didn't realize that some people aren't handy and may see this as a task, I found it fun, more like a puzzle ;) just don't overtighten anything, but make its handtight at the same time!

F1 no problem thank you for taking the time to clarify.

I try to add some humor sometime to my post and you know it’s much harder to do with written words than when it’s spoken (which I am about as gullible as they come). I seem to find my biggest interest (next to the fish of course) in filtration systems to some of you who have been at this many years its old hat and probably boring but to a newbie its allot to learn. A whole lot more to it then just water flowing threw a filter if you care about doing it properly.

Well the FX5 is doing well no problems so far it’s so quiet compared to my other filters. But I must admit it will take awhile to build a full trust of it. I would not have gotten another one if I didn't read this forum and seen what is said about them. If you really want to know what was a piece of Crap it was my Chevy Vega or was that a Chevette Diesel???:grinno:

If you are still nervous about a leak, you could get a large plastic pan to put underneath the fx5 and put a water detector/alarm on it.

Years ago (decades actually) I had a fluval 303 bust an 0-ring and decided never again to do a canister filter. However, the fx-5 changed my mind

Lol i dont think there were any fluvals back then that dident leak i still yous a 103 and a 404 that if it wasent for teflon tape would flood. I like my odessa havent leaked yet and it is taken apart every 2 to 3 weeks for cleaning. If your filters are leaking around the main seal just rap it with teflon tape it thickens the seal and is alot less likly to leak
