Do these do ok with 1-3 or are they better in a group larger in species only tank?

One of my top 5 fish for certain.

They are harem breeders so I suppose a group would do better.

Very nice fish! The coloration is very similar to my male - I wonder if mine are the Uruguayan strain as well...

A bunch of penguin tetras, a few cories and two otos

No they are quite mellow. They chase each other a bit but are not aggressive to other fish at all.
