caught out of a neighborhood pond in virginia, my guess is vieja amphilophus cross cuz i can see the little hints of red on the edge of the dorsal fin reminiscent of vieja. and then it's obviously peeling, we all know where that comes from.

Lucky. We got nothing like this in Ohio lol. I have no clue on what it is but it’s definitely interesting. Nice catch.

My question is why the hell is the person lipping a 6 oz fish?
Looks like the ring finger is supporting the bottom of the fish enough for the fish to be comfortable. Plus I bet it was just a quick picture. If you don’t like lipping smaller fish then you’d absolutely hate what people use to catch them with.

Hooks. We use hooks to catch fish, I know this well. That fish could have been palmed. I wasn't even gonna comment on the fingernails or the crap trapped beneath them...... But I just did.

I'm not too familiar with fishing terms,is 'lipping' grabbing a fish by the lips?
Yea lipping is when you grab the fish by the lips. It’s fine to do it with anything under a pound and a half otherwise it can damage the lips and mouth and for some reason people are sensitive about it because it “hurts” the fish. If the fish was in pain you’d immediately know.

There’s no issue with how the fish is being held. Lighten up a bit, more skilled and known anglers do so much worse
