I sense a mob of triggered people coming your way......lol
Have at it ?... gotta b killed, thats how this works ??‍♂️. These pics make it to newspapers/media pretty quick. No bueno for “fish keepers”. We dont need stricter laws regardless if it can survive the winter or not. Any good fishermen would “do their duty” to help conserve the environment lol... “kill 1 to save 1,000”

Any cichlids, and even Centrarchids (sunfish) can produce zanthic forms (color variants).
I have seen wild Herichthys minkleyi, and many others come up with this color form (although it is uncommon).
My biggest problem with the way it is being held, is it makes the fish harder to ID.
I believe I counted at least 12 dorsal spines, and 3 anals.
This could make it any of the spiny rayed perciforms, so I would not venture a guess with that lone photo.

caught out of a neighborhood pond in virginia, my guess is vieja amphilophus cross cuz i can see the little hints of red on the edge of the dorsal fin reminiscent of vieja. and then it's obviously peeling, we all know where that comes from.
I'm sorry didn't have time to read the whole post. Do you still have her? or did you put it back in the pond?.

It's not going to survive the winter. No need to kill on sight. And yes, it's ''sight'', not site.
Ackshully...our unwanted species regulations here in NZ do say you should kill it on site. Moving it alive to another site is "Spreading an unwanted organism" with that carries a punishment of up to 5 years jail and/or $100,000 fine.
Hehe. :)

Live in VA and have never seen one of these. I mean I guess it makes sense that I haven't, it's 100% gotta be invasive. I hope this is just is just an isolated specimen and that they aren't reproducing.

I think it would be considered invasive if it wasn’t the only fish and there was an actually breeding population of them. Highly likely it’s just a lone mutt hybrid that was unwanted so someone decided to release it in this pond this summer. Won’t last too much longer as the seasons change.

I'd definitely have that sucker in a tank at my house if I caught it. It looks like a bream with a zanthic gene like the yellow jag. Killer cool looking fish.
