Any cichlids, and even Centrarchids (sunfish) can produce zanthic forms (color variants).
I have seen wild Herichthys minkleyi, and many others come up with this color form (although it is uncommon).
My biggest problem with the way it is being held, is it makes the fish harder to ID.
I believe I counted at least 12 dorsal spines, and 3 anals.
This could make it any of the spiny rayed perciforms, so I would not venture a guess with that lone photo.
I'm sorry didn't have time to read the whole post. Do you still have her? or did you put it back in the pond?.View attachment 1472315
caught out of a neighborhood pond in virginia, my guess is vieja amphilophus cross cuz i can see the little hints of red on the edge of the dorsal fin reminiscent of vieja. and then it's obviously peeling, we all know where that comes from.
Ackshully...our unwanted species regulations here in NZ do say you should kill it on site. Moving it alive to another site is "Spreading an unwanted organism" with that carries a punishment of up to 5 years jail and/or $100,000 fine. It's not going to survive the winter. No need to kill on sight. And yes, it's ''sight'', not site.
Yes ?is this thread about the identification of the fish or fish feelings?
Live in VA and have never seen one of these. I mean I guess it makes sense that I haven't, it's 100% gotta be invasive. I hope this is just is just an isolated specimen and that they aren't reproducing.View attachment 1472315
