Yea lipping is when you grab the fish by the lips. It’s fine to do it with anything under a pound and a half otherwise it can damage the lips and mouth and for some reason people are sensitive about it because it “hurts” the fish. If the fish was in pain you’d immediately know.
No you probably wouldn’t. Is the fish gonna scream “Ouch that hurts”. And for some reason in the fishing community people like to lip any fish’s mouth that they can fit there thumb in. I agree that this fish should have been handled differently. It’s an amphilophus, vieja, hybrid of some sort. But interesting to see in a Virginia pond. I also live in VA.

People worried about the handling of an invasive species... priceless... kill it on site ?☠⚔?
It’s probably just someone’s unwanted pet that was released this summer. Wouldn’t last through the winter around here. I would just let it enjoy the rest of its summer.

It's not going to survive the winter. No need to kill on sight. And yes, it's ''sight'', not site.

If it's going to die anyway you might as well take it home and fillet it ,atleast it's not dying in vain.
