the hell is this

They are true P-bass invasives, 6 were released from a pond in the 1960s during the rainy season, and their population has exploded in the lake (reducing a number of native cichlids populations). There are also invasives like Tilapia and Oscars.
The jamboree is a half hearted attempt to control their numbers.
Because of the hard water, high mineral content and high pH of Gatun, they don't get as large as their S American counterparts.
My friend caught so many he was giving them away.

Ha- sorry I’m sure you’ve got actual PBass invasive, I was talking about the fish in the original post that was subsequently recaptured and jumped to its demise.

I just replied at the end of the thread and didn’t mean it as directed to your post. I guess I should’ve gone back and hit reply to an earlier post

As for the lake garun p bass- I was wondering about the actual salinity of lake gatun in addition to overall mineral content- I’d think the locks would have to be delivering a pretty good bit of seawater to the lake

Gatun averages about 0.5 ppt salinity, but because it is part of the Panama Canal that varies with the displacement of sea water from the locks into the lake.
Photso below are "not" mine.

.5ppt plus ot minus according to lock activity.
And for reference what is the salinity level we use for ich treatment, I know it’s all over MFK and I’ll go look it up

I use a salinity of at least 3ppt to treat ick.
So the lake average is quite minimal, although at times certain areas can peak at 15 ppt.
