will sponge filters be the only filtration

Until January, yes. I have 3 of the 125g sponges (2 on air, 1 on powerhead). I have some HOB that are on for mechanical/movement. Think about it, the LFS uses less in their tanks with even more stock than I have. It will be what I "need" just not what I "want".

Wow you are lucky. But i wouldn't go barebottom, unless you are breeding or something. I would add some sand! But that's me, it's your tank!

I hate bare bottom too. Just leaving it this way until I find the sand I am looking for. Aquarium sand and pool filter sand are too tan/brown. (already have both) I am looking for pure white locally. ;) I actually am breeding right now, just not in this tank so the sponges are going come in handy in the very near future.

Fish are in, barely even had a minicycle. I have to say I am a Stability fan now. The sponges were cycled in the 225 but the stock in the 125g is more than the 225g was with an FX5 and sump. The sponges came from a tank with significantly less food source so the quick adjustment to it's current level I will say Stability made that difference. I had less than a 48 hour minicycle while the sponges adjusted to 3 times the bio the sponges were used to supporting.

The Hoplarchus Psittacus "True Parrot" one of my new favorite fish. I have been looking for one of these forever. :headbang2

I want to seriously thank Damein, "fallin49er" for giving me his 125g stock. He was going a different direction with his tank but I though it was very cool that he does not sell fish, only give them to other people in the hobby. Very cool way of thinking and very cool guy. :D

Thank you. I have seen them online from many vendors some less than $100 but you can't beat a free price and being able to go check out another members tanks.

UPDATE

Nothing aesthetic yet but upgraded the filtration with an FX5 today. Got a smokin good deal for $125. Thanks Jeff!

The Myersi got ich BAD and I have been fighting it this week. This stuff pissed me off... :wall: You can see it on the female green's tail. Heat and salt haven't worked so I switched to Malachite Green today. Hopefully that will kick it for good.

That's weird Justin? I wonder what caused them to get ich? Never had it in my tanks...Those Myersi are trying to kill each other huh? That's strange...I wonder if the higher temps in water are making them act more aggro? You know I keep all my tanks at about 75 degrees and you said you like to keep yours up around 80-82 right? Just thinking out loud...hope they get better for you.

I know it didn't come from your tank, your tanks are all very healthy. Some fish are more prone to get it in transport or from temp variations if they have never had it before. The sponge filters were from a friends tank so odds are good that's where it came from.

If you saw the smaller one right now you would wonder how it's still alive I feel bad. If it didn't have ich I would split them up. Guess I just need to sit back and wait, hope for the best for now. :(

I have a 37 gal tank that is not in use if you want to use it as a quaranteen tank. Also have an extra filter and heater for it...just let me know.
