i'm with DeLgAdo the loser on this one, the e-cat is a better fish then the jar. the e-cat would have got him during the night so he had had plenty of time in the tank before i found him to revive.

this e-cat had been in with a fare few types of fish before it went in my tank, it was a risk but i wanted the e-cat in a large tank

K.M.A!!! :p

I do not think comments had anything to do with which fish we value more..or which fish has more value. i think it was the way this thread was presented with first a title of the Joys of having an E-cat..then the mention of the E-Cat killing others, then the fact that the Jar was shown limp.. that really gets your hairs standing up. .. . it was not presented with any remorse..or even a lesson learned...... and to the average fish keeper this would not have been something to be so callous about. All of us make mistakes and hopefully learn from it..and even with this thread we learned what an e-cat is capable of.

no $h1t....holy christ....relax:chillpill: guys:chillpill: ..........I've got aE-cat in with my africans (125 gal) and the only unaccounted for fish are a few small fry.......I have only seen him 1 time in the last 2 months though............very good at hide and seek...........tell you the truth though...............if i see him again and can catch him he will go the way of my green tiger botia (LFS, store credit)...........as I would hate to lose my 4, 4 - 6'' fronts!!!!:)

Yeah, i'm a bad person too! I had an 8" E cat with convicts and Severums for years. Never lost one. They learned to stay away while the cat was eating though.

makes me think.........

my ecat zapped my clarius cat fish...........I assumed thats what happened but your experience has made it clear that that was the case.

how big was the jardini and how big is the ecat ???

sorry for your loss.................

I wouldn't have risked it personally.

I would much rather a jardini over a E cat.

Live and learn I suppose.

G'day

I wasn't going to post because it's usually just too funny watching everyone try to jump down someone else throat! this happened to be no exception to the rule.

This is actually my old fish (the e-cat). I grew the e-cat from about 2" till 7" or so he is now around the 14" or so mark maybe a little larger, but VERY VERY thick.

I had this from with everything from C. moori to discus to silver arowana etc etc. It never bothered another fish. I shut down most of my FW tanks to go SW so I gave this fish to my fried (claypac) to put with his fish assuming that the fish would again be fine with tankmates. Mistake- it nuked the tank. Live and learn. Who knows why the ecat never bothered a single fish until it was moved then decided to go nuts. Change in enevironment?

At the end of the day live and learn....

DeLgAdO - judging by your comments regarding the fish recovering. Obviosuly havent had much experience with the species mate. The fish do not just recover. Have a damn look at the pic of the jardini... shes a goner mate! the fishes muscle all contracted up which looked like instant rigor mortis. Fish DO NOT just recover from ecat shocks. People always love to comment on what they hear on websites or from a mate with little experience...

2nd'ed I've kept a 10" ecat with synodontis and other species, when I bought it at the LFS it was in a 220 with a 16" silver arrowana and never came out of its slate hiding spot but after it was acclimated in my tank with the synodontis I tried to add a longear sunfish and ended up with the same result as the Jardini. It was all good until the sunfish tried to stay in the E cats favorite spot then it was toast. If the ecat is a good size it doesnt have to be full grown to still put out a serious shock against a fish that isn't much larger. If the E cat hits it with a good shock it will kill the other fish instantly, it could give the fish a little buzz or it could KO it with one hit.

Also, 2nd the E cat > Jardini in Aussie territory. Jardini's are local first off and last time I saw someone getting large E cats in Aus they were going for $150-$200 for a nice sized one... It sucks for the Jardini but some of yall are getting way to stressed out about it because you've idolized the Jardini whereas others value the catfish alot higher its just a matter of opinion. Especially in this case where Jardini's are native the E cat would have been a much larger loss.

This thread could use a little less flaming on him and just a simple that sucks or a reason why you disagree instead of just telling them they don't know what their doing. E Cat PRIDE ~Trent

you assume to much :banhim:

if the fish was struggling as you say in the first post

i woke up to see the jardini struggling around my tank

then it is appears he was stunned or was having muscles spasms, now would he have made it? highly likely.

now im no electrican (but i have some family that is)

it apears though from what im getting is that the E-cat emitted high fequency alternating currents which means that the shock only went to his skin and muscles. now if the current had passed through his brain or heart you would find him as a dead floater in the morning . what most likely happened is that the jar pissed him off and just zapped him in a fraction of a second and he swam off in loop-T-loops.
