The kid wants a catfish !!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A sun cat/eclipse cat maxes out at 8-10 inches and are gorgeous, a lace fin sydontis maxes out at 6 and is pretty with less color. Never had a tonof luck with pims, but they are energetic, but if something fits in their mouth its as good as gone.

Farawella cats get to about 12 and are neat looking.

Theres always the option of a school of corys. The lazer corys ive been seeing lately are drop dead gorgeous.

Good idea! My thoughts exactly! You can get like 3 eclipse cats in a 75. Or you can get like 40 cory cats but that would be a waste basically as they mostly hide. I have 5 and they are constantly hiding

I think 3 might be over doing it. And your Cory's must just not like you because mine never hide.

Lol I think my corys are just scared as they are in with a lot larger fish and they get bullied constantly so they are all scared. But I would think that just 3 sun cats would work in a 75 alone as they would have plenty of room and a nice piece of driftwood and some caves

a sun cat would get very cramped in a 75, they can get 18 inches wild and even in captivity 14-16 inches in nit unheard of, the previously mentioned rafaels, synos, smaller plecos, and pimelodides would work best in that tank. you could also try wood cats but they are relatively secretive.

Wow thanks guys you sure have given us alot of options and i value your input. Computers and every thing tech is my bag but love watching fish and our current one is a great bonding project for us due to my work. Sure wish i could rush this build but still think we have 2+ weeks till i can start stocking.

Do a school of Cory cats, not nocturnal, don't get big, active, social, good cleaning crew, easy to breed if you want to do this, tons of different species. Sterbai and orange laser look great together.

I will +1 this. Corys are very hardy fish and have very interesting behavior, they don't hide a lot like a lot of smaller catfish and you could keep a good sized group of them in something as small as 20 gallons. Most species are also relatively easy to breed so that would be fun for the kid too--might give him some strange ideas about where babies come from though. :)

Sun cats don't max out at 8-10 inches...more like 12-14 inches
