I think they are adorable... I dont see all of the contreversy... Its a genetic mutation, its not like there keeping them in a tic-tac box to stunt them.

I guess they are not so bad if they are in fact genetic mutations and not some lab creations but I still would not get one...I think they are engineered to look that way so I lump them in with blood parrots and flowerhorns.

Those look terrible. I know I'm not paying 10 bucks for that. It just doesn't look right. Why can't people stop playing with nature already. I would think it's a defect if I saw one in somebody's tank. I have never really heard of these before though. How do they make them take way? Do they get engineered in a lab or something like that? Or is it like a birth defect. I'm guessing it's another "lab project"

These aren't new, they have been around for several years now. They are just shortbodied fish which occur naturally in wild. While these where were probably inbred to create more, its nothing worse than anything else you see in your pet store.

Its not a "lab fish", nor are they hybrids btw :hitting:

I've posted this before... I think they were probably just deformed and most breeders would have culled them, but someone was "smart" enough to realize people would probably buy these things, grew some out, bred them, maybe down a couple generations, and there you have it. Good marketing?

I would agree that it is good forsight and marketing if that is what actually happened.Does not mean that someone has to like the fish though.Someone previously mentioned that normal GT are not very popular and I hope they are not suggesting that every unpopular fish be transformed into some freak in order to sell better.
