:duh: Fooled me. Maybe I should go back to bed.:screwy: Why are fish toys in the tank? Do the fish play with them? :)

my old FH used to rip apart an octopus toy...it used to bite its tentacles off :D

Cant you tell by determining if the Gar has bony plates on lateral portions of the isthmus? Info from lepisosteidae.net :)

well off the top of my head know that they grow pretty big :)

then u gotta read more before thinking of getting one my friend:)

99.9% sure it's a FL gar. it's in the pet trade (even if so in India...and it's good to see gars making their way out there...maybe i can get some of my relatives to start keeping gars out there :)) so it's more than likely a FL gar.

as mentioned above, be sure to read up more on their captive care before picking up these fish...they are quite hardy, but they aren't necessarily for beginners.
if those colorful angelfish ever become available here in the US i'm going to try to spawn them :) --

So why are spotted gars so hard to come by? Are they just becoming extinct in the wild? And does anyone that you guys know if have one (here on MFK) ?

right now i have about 50 of them :) but most of these are research specimens from a project that Richard and i have been working on for the past few years.

both Richard and I have some specimens as pets, and i have sent off a few here and there to some MFK members are part of maintaining funds for the project.

they just aren't brought in from the wild like other species nor are they cultured like the FL and gator gars. they are one of the more wide-spread species, but recently only rarely seen in the hobby--
