I must disagree, although it's not as common and they don't get as large as say amphilophus they do have them. It's just raer to find pics of males that are mature/old enough too have them. Check out Jeff rapps site you can find some there. ;)
 
Im pretty happy with it being male been wanting one for ages!
Hopefully in another year he'll start getting that head happening.

it's a male....pointed fins, blue spangling. yes, i know festae are notorious cross dressers but based on the info a male is the best choice. It can't be guaranteed but based on what we know it is the best choice. if you really want to know you should vent the fish. Or you could just believe fishluvr12. He has a sweet female festae tattoo on his back. If you can't believe a guy like that than who can you believe? its a male. take my and his word for it
