LOL cheers =)

P.S I wish I never saw this post, all day been hmmm how can I get some cheap US made backgrounds down here ideas ideas, last time this got in my head we almost imported 100 Roseline barbs (10$ States 100$ here).

May I ask how hard it is fixing these bad boys into the aquarium? from what I understand you just have to glue the base and back wall but some seem to have areas that are not flat and at least 4-6 inchs in front do you also have to silicone this area?

cheers

Depends on the background itself. There are a few different designs. Some are flat in the back, some are basically flat themselves and very thin, some are hollow and come out a lot...

I have SW reef friends that spend more on one coral or one month of electricity than one of these big backgrounds costs. I have a hard time understanding the penny pinching I see in the freshwater community sometimes. I understand we're not all made of money, but I'm trying to take it to the next level constantly. I get bored otherwise. Eat noodles for a month or something. ;)
No personal offense bud, still love your paludarium!

All good, i know where your coming from and obviously aren't trying to put any one down... for me the equipment for the most part isn't the biggest expense, unless i'm buying stuff from the US or Europe, in which case it normally cost quite a lot more since they have to pay shipping etc, and if theres only 1 store that has it, you better believe they'll mark the price up again just because they are the only ones that have it...

But nah, living in HK its the cost of electricity and space that burns holes in the pockets big time, not to mention trying to survive in this town... i mean heck, i spent an arm and a leg on my setup, so spending money on a nice 3D background isn't a problem... just the fact over here there are quite a few cheap alternatives which sometimes look as good if not better than the originals...

And as i mentioned, its more the cost of every thing else over here that makes life difficult and not so much the hobby... i mean if you were ever in Hong Kong try grocery shopping in this town and your jaw would probably drop at how much it costs to feed a family... The amount of money we would spend before to fill 1 shopping cart in this town would feed a family for a week in Australia...

The backgrounds you can get look as good as the originals because they are most likely the exact same product - the DBN backgrounds are manufactured in China, just like almost everything we buy over here...

^ thats a good point... Next time im in China im going to see if i can find some exact replicas ;)

A lot of overflows are difficult to cover with a background. One of my overflows completely takes up one side of my aquarium so I was able to easily cover it with a slim line background. This over flow was more difficult to to cover because it's curved. The over flow cover was from http://www.aquatichouse.com/corals_and_plants/reefoverflow.asp and it wasn't cheap :irked:

I like it. Now I'm thinking about going to a local pottery place to see if I can get some one to make me a few more that look like Amazon trees growing out of the water with the large fan type roots......

3D background...blah blah blah....lol..j/k. I've been debating doing one of these for months:nilly: Few reasons i haven't already purchased one is my tank is f'n 10ft long and i really don't have any where to move my fish to during the install process. With a 10 footer i'll have to purchase a few pieces..add that up. I'm looking at $300-$400 easily.
