The Most 3D Backgrounds on MFK--Build Thread?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
2x4 stands look more mechanical and better imo. really allows the fish to shine. to me the tanks are what im looking at and dont pay any attention to the stand. clockworks tanks could be on cinderblocks and make most others tanks including mine look like crap

Like I said no offense, which means I wasn't insulting anyone, which means no one needed defended. I just find it interesting people put so much work into a tank and build a stand that takes a couple hours to build, because they don't want to out the work into it. This might be insulting to say. I hope not. Anyways the 3d backgrounds or at least the premade ones take little effort on the persons part. People using them cant really take credit for how their tank looks, except for picking out which one they decide to buy. With plants and things you have to place however you want to make the tank look however you think is nice. That being said I think the tanks with the backgrounds look the nicest and would like to put them in all my tanks someday. But then I would be able to take absolutely no credit for aquascaping. Well that is unless I did some of that anyways. I know clockworks does put some rocks in for aquascaping. Don't get me wrong. It is nice to see people build stuff and put effort in to make something than just going out and buying things that make your tank look nice. I know that's a personal preference thing though. Some people just like to see a nice tank and don't care about work involved. I know for example most people on here would appreciate a tank more someone was taking care of on their own than if they were paying a place to maintain it for them, because it was easier and still made the tank look nice. Anyways I hope I didn't offend anyone. I was insulting his stands nor did I know what they looked like until he said. I just had responded to his comment about penny pinching in the freshwater aquarium hobby.

I was being nice before but I really don't care about the stands bud. You wanna come over here and build me one, be my guest.

And backgrounds actually make aquascaping harder...

Well sorry. Like I said I wasn't trying to insult anyone's way. I thought you were good enough to have the conversation in a civilized manner. I guess I've been around mfk long enough to know with a lot of members that's not possible. You shouldn't really make comments about how people choose to spend or not spend their money in this hobby if your too thin skinned to let someone question how you do things.

Thanks man. I'll have a 225, 180, 90, 75, 29, and four 20s when I'm done all with backgrounds so it should be video worthy.

Those background look great. I think I need one for my 75g spilo tank now. Which one did you pick for your 75g tank, and have you installed it yet?

have you ever used the ones made from sponge? they look good but I wonder if the water in them gets too stagnant. also - what about the inside of your backgrouns? do they have water in them? how does that work out? why do you not put them on the outside? thanks

I have not used the sponge ones but I have seen one. I don't think it would last long with fish that like to pick at things. I've seen plecos destroy sponge filters so...
Some are flat in the back and have no water behind them. The ones that are hollow in the back you drill holes through them and put your filter intake behind it.
