hi,
I know this question is probably answered in the forum, but I am still curious, cause I did looked at for answer from the web and wanted to compare with everybody else though, so anyway, I ask,
what is the most ferocious piranha from all types of piranha?could it be
the Pygocentrus piraya or the Serrasalmus rhombeus (black piranha)?
as for me, I have 12 redbellies (Pygocentrus nattereri), 3" each, which I currently just moved them into outdoor pond; I gave them feeders for a start, and they havent ate them yet, I know it will take sometimes for them to adjust to their new home, and I hope they'll become ferocious anytime from now just like the nature of the fish, cause thats what I them to be, ...
cheers

Is this the only reason why you keep Piranha?

I know they get agressive if blood is in the water. But i dont know why u would want rlly agressive fish. Cause if u had little kids around it could be bad.

thanks for your though, piranhas in their nature habitat are wild and considered to be an aggressive species, specially when they smell blood in the water, or even when they are starve, these are common knowledges, they wouldn't attack people unless their are bothered. It is by their very nature to be aggressive, and that's the reason why I keep them, otherwise I would just keep a gold fish in a jar. I have 100 g tank and I have a very large pond over the backyard, and another at the medium size, so I am well prepared for the fish.
I appreciated your though in this forum, but some people keeping them because of the fish nature characteristic, and that is including my self, and I like them, but others might keep them just as far as they pet them.
I sure tons of videos in the web about piranhas show their fearsome, and ferociousity of the fish, and indeed it just a matter of interest that people keep them in their tank back home,...
I wouldnt treat my piranha as a killing machine that would eat anything a live I would put in the tank. But what I really want is an aggressive piranha, showing their true characteristic, otherwise there is no point of keeping them, ... unless this is what I though about the fish.
But what I like to share with you guys here, is no more than further knowledge about the fish, I just want to know what is the most aggressive piranha among their species????, that is all, I hope other people would share their opinion.

honestly? you actualy belive they are the mean aggressive killers hollywood made them out to be? if so please do a little reserch on them. they are naturaly a very shy and skittish fish yes they are certainly capable of severly injuring anything that enters there habitat but will they do it often no. No animal let alone fish is capable of being a bloodthirsty killer like u belive piranhas are. animals (fish included) do what they need to do to survive they do not hunt for sport they do not torture there prey (unlike humans).

BTW watching a few videos of piranhas eating goldfish on youtube dosent count as doign research

a good book to read IMO is Piranhas : A complete pet owners manual by David M. Schleser

sorry if at any point in my rant i offended you

oh and to answer your question i personaly belive that the black piranha would be the most aggressive the piraya would be a close runner up

i agree with zander_the_rbp about how holly wood gave pirrahnas their man killing discription i believe a muskie or a pike would be a more agressive freshwater fish

i have a red zebra cichlid who is a real bad bugger and kills his share of fish he is evil

my next on the list would my zebra tilapia she is mean one subtle then nasty as can be and she can strip scales with her mouth

well well, i dont know if you are truly understand the question, but anyway , I picked up black piranha as the answer, Yes??truly, man, I hv no further comment over this overall forum, I apologize if there is a confusion over the comments I wrote, I've read a lot about this fish, only if you call that research;
some wrote that red bellies are to be the most aggressive among all in the web, but i desagree which is why I posted this tread, nor that I disagree with you guys, but just as someone mention above in this tread, some mention catoprion mento as being the most aggressive one, then some would pick the black piranha is the one, so truly, my point is just getting people though of their piranhas, that is all,....
the word aggressive could have more than one meaning, other than just being "killer machine", thats is not what I mean, I know that piranhas are skitties or shy or whatever they are...,I have them, so I know them, not even necessary to mention that, but some are not that skitties, they have a different behaviour, you guys knows that,..., many people have different opinion about this, eventhough the answer may already posted, but again again and again, I just want people share their though if they are truly understand my question,
anyway,..
so the black piranhas, yes?or the catoprion mento?
