Jessica How did pepper get to 9inches so quick!? he's outgrown my boys! what are your feeding routines??

I feed him twice a day with whatever he will eat. usually eats a few shrimp, anywhere from 2-5 (small ones) raw. Or I'll give him a 2-3" chunk or two of fresh fish. Sometimes he eats both, sometimes not.

I occasionally give him an earthworm.

Water temp is about 82. Water changes 50% 1-2 times weekly, normally twice.

I found that my rtc grows quickest at water temps between 82-84. Currently I'm at 84.5 and he is putting on massive girth. Also it helps if u guys vary Their diet, especially when young. Wat I feed is a random mix of the following: talipia, catfish, salmon, sea perch, scallops, shrimp, perch, earthworms, bananas, frozen peas, kens 9.5mm pellet, algea wafers, massivore(not really anymore) and they get treats such as octopus, squid, crayfish...and soon I'm going to try a mouse. I buy what ever is cheap. If I find a deal at walmart like with salmon recently I'll pick up a few pounds. Try dif places, I go to aldies to pick up bags of cheap fish. China town would be great to. My main staple has always been tilapia but I mix it up as often as possible.

PEpper is in a 75. Milton is in a 55.

Mqktandy, I am finding the same thing with Pepper at 82-84 degrees. Never goes below 82, sometimes up to 84, but never higher.

I tried feeding him a blueberry yesterday ... he spit it out :) I will have to try banana! Have given him peas before with no avail but he tried em. I definitely will have to buy him some more variety. Tried to catch him some channel cat last night but no catches.

Pepper's fave food so far has been crappie and earthworms. Wish they were still in the shallows. We don't have a china town here.

Have you ever tried feeding mussels? They are pretty cheap at the store.

I have never tried mussels, though I haven't seen them around me for a reasonable price. I'll give it a go though.
