But from looking through webpages, im thinking, angelfish, discus, loaches, swordfish and mollies.

The tank at the pet store has cichlids, which if im not mistaken are the same fish as oscars correct? but i love the color of these fish and thinking maybe these?

Most likely the colorful cichlids at the pet store are african cichlids while oscars are south american (very different). I dont have personal experience on african cichlids but Ive read that male african cichlids can be aggressive while females are great community fish. Also, most african cichlids are stated as getting up to a max of 6" while most South american cichlids, excluding a few (firemouths are cool and I hear fair well in a 55), get 10"+. mollies probably wont fair too well with even the african cichlids cause in my opinion mollys are too similar to food.
 
sorry didnt notice the link, yea those are Africans while the oscars are SA, many people really like the Africans as well. search them on the threads, you will find a lot of info.
 
If it's African Cichlid you want, I believe your 55 gallon can house almost all the species perfectly and your future 75 gallon will be perfect for them as well.

ugh man i hate africans, i dont know why anyone ever likes these fish. There bodies are so long and dumb looking and there personality is like a ..... well fish. SA's are like having a dog in a tank :)

Smaller Community fish wouldnt be good in your 55. They would be lunch for your fx5

so this would be one tray of pond matrix?

From what I notice on my tank now, the water always seems "whitish", however im not sure if its the current filters that are causing this, as they are dropping the water into the tank and putting alot of air into the water. But again im not sure, i will have the fx5 put on tomorrow afternoon so ill keep you guys posted!
 
right now in my 2 fx5's i have biomax in the bottom 2 trays and some blue foam pads in the top. after my tank finishes cycling i will add prefilter to the top and no pads. i have blue pads i may add to the bottom tray after, not sure yet.
