The Non Oil Crisis

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
"While these numbers would appear to indicate a massive reserve, the percentage of this oil which might be extracted using current technology is another matter. Estimates of the Bakken's technically recoverable oil have ranged from as low as 1% — because the Bakken shale has low permeability, making the oil difficult to extract — to Leigh Price's estimate of 50% recoverable.[10] Reports issued by both the USGS and the state of North Dakota in April 2008 seem to indicate the lower range of recoverable estimates are more realistic with current technology."

You guys need to watch the video, this has nothing to do with the oil companies and profits.
Here is the short of it.
30 years ago our government went to the middle east and made a deal with them that we would make them rich and we would only buy our oil from them. All they had to do was denote all the oil money in American dollars and, this is the kicker, take a percentage of that money and buy our national debt. Now at this stage our national debt is so high that if they bring in this oil (from Alaska) our economy will collapse because we will no longer have them to pay down the national debt. There is three countries that didn't sign this agreement
1. Irag 2. Iran -- Funny we are now in Irag (Trying to establish a democracy) Hmmmm
And we are engaged in a dispute over Nuclear weapons with Iran (Sound Familiar--WMD)
The kicker is that Iran has set a date to flood the world market with cheap oil. What
do you think that will do to us-you got it collapse the American economy.

You really need to watch the video.

Funny we are in Iraq? I find the war on terrorism not funny at all. My brother just returned from the middle east (ADA), and trust me. What the media says is not whats going down. At all. No, it is not a huge war. No, our soldiers are not/were not getting owned. No, it is not about oil. No, they do not want us out of there.

wikipedia isnt a reputable source really
were there footnotes in the wiki article? then it would prove this fact valid

bush lifted the ban on offshore drilling, now it is up to congress

drilling our own oil would help the economy, create jobs lower gas prices, maybe even lower inflation on products due to shipping etc

we cant be dependent on oil especially when we are getting it from our enemies.......
and kooks like hugo chavez

True on Wiki. I didn't have time to really research it.

The best thing about having our own oil source (if it is true) is that it will buy us time. We will have time to develop alternate sources of fuel.

thannks for clearing that wiki out, still i think there is enough crude oil in our territories to last us long enough to develop alternate energy sources
all congress has to do is vote on it ( if they did, we could drill) but that secreatary of the house or whoever she is nancy pelosi i think? is not letting them vote because she does not want offshore drilling :irked:

I know some might disagree with me but i think nuclear is a good option
a bunch of countries in europe are over 90% nuclear, all we really need is to have something that will cut back the amount of fuel needed for electricity

just my 2 C's

This was not posted to slight any soldier including your brother. I support all soldiers that serve and have served there or any where for that matter. I currently have co-workers that are on their third tour. But I truly believe this is about oil in Irag, and trying to keep our economy from collapsing.
The only reason they don't bring our men home is because we went in there destroyed their infra structure and economy, then their would be civil war and no control of the oil. Then Iran slides in and takes control.

Do you truly believe we as a society know exactly what technology we have. I don't. Technology released to the public has a history of being at least 20 to 30 years behind where we actually are. So you cannot say that the oil cannot be extracted. I personally believe the Billions of dollars spent fighting this war would be better spent on development of an alternative energy source, ie hydrogen, solar or the like. Not fossil fuels. But yet the funding is never given to truly explore the other alternatives they remain focused on fossil fuel. Why?

The point of this post was to show a plausible reason as to why we don't explore our own potential oil resources and why we continue to cling to dependency to Middle Eastern oil.

cause the people in control are already making money.
Power has nothing to do with money at that level ;)

Didn't take it like that, and you should reread what I was saying. My point was my brother came back from over there, and is being sent out on a second tour. He is a Captain, and knows a lot of whats "really" happening. My point is that the media portrays us as the bad guys, and that everyone in the middle east wants us to leave. That is not true. Also, the oil issue? I used to believe that it played a part. After talking at great length with my brother, my views have changed drastically. I truly believe oil does not play a large (or any) part in why we are overseas.

The only reason they don't bring our men home is because we went in there destroyed their infra structure and economy, then their would be civil war and no control of the oil. Then Iran slides in and takes control.

Wrong. The only reason they don't bring our men home is because there is still rebel groups of Al Qaeda. What a lot of people fail to realize (not saying you, although you might fall into this category...I don't know you) is that the countries themselves want the Al Qaeda dead. They want the U.S. to keep doing what we are doing. However, that does not sell newspapers. What sells newspapers is the young children flipping off the soldiers. The soldiers acting disgracefully. The lie that everyone hates us over there, and wants us to leave.

That is false. Granted, a select few of our forces have shamed our country. Thousands upon thousands have brought (at least to me) us pride.

Do you truly believe we as a society know exactly what technology we have. I don't. Technology released to the public has a history of being at least 20 to 30 years behind where we actually are. Because the money is currently being sent over seas to stop the rebels from flying planes into our buildings. The money is currently being sent over seas to stop the terror that lives in innocent people.
The money is being sent to free people, to save people, to help a country in dire need.

The point of this post was to show a plausible reason as to why we don't explore our own potential oil resources and why we continue to cling to dependency to Middle Eastern oil.

I don't argue for one second that we should not search for methods to free our dependence on foreign oil. I also do not believe for one second that we are motivated by oil, and oil alone.

Regardless of whether or not we have 1,000 trillion barrels, or 1 barrel, we NEED to develop alternate methods. We NEED to develop some way to grow our own fuel in a feasible method. For the sake of our country, and the sake of the world (Ozone layer, anyone?).

My points are made. Please do not take this as a personal attack on you, or your intelligence. It is not meant to be. I am simply offering a different view on what is happening.
