The official HOUSEPLANTS thread

I'd say if it's flowering it's pretty happy. That flower is amazing. Does it have a scent? Plus I like those orange head tapajos? I see in the background. ;)

I have a pothos, calathea, chinese evergreen, philodendron, and ZZ. I like the plants that are hard to kill. I call my house the labratory when I'm trying out new plants.

I bring them in,usually at the end of October but there is a frost warning for tonight so I brought most of them in today.
LOL.
I am skeptical about only plain weeds being in your pots.... but if it's true, you shall be crowned as my hero.

Oh no what I meant was while the pots are outside the weeds start to grow in them along with the houseplants.I usually cut them down or pull them out but I have been neglecting my plants a little lately.

the flower has a scent only detectable by sniffing very close & isn't "flowery" or sweet.
the petals have a soft bumpy texture, not smooth/delicate. all the dark spots are raised.

The Taps in pic are my drab & runts. that is the sub-dominant's side tank. lol. the bigger spawners like the other end. but i think my female heckelli swam over too.
If I use an extension cord on comp, it could actually reach that tank. LOL.
:-]

Kell, see how sad my plant looks in the 3rd shot.?
the stems look shriveled, and yet the flowers appear.

Yeah, its cool though. Thanks! (FINALLY, GAWSH.....:p) Maybe that's just how they grow? I dunno...I'm hoping it spreads out and cascades out of the pot. THAT would be cool! Kinda looks like its fixin to do that, don't it? ;) You should find out the name so's I can google it and add it to my collection! lol

the plant is called a stapelia. i like the way the flowers look and for a being a cactus/aloe/succulent its not thorny n dangerous like some. i wouldnt try smelling the flower. its supposed to smell like rotting meat or spoiled meat to attract flys for pollination and whatnot. thats a kool cutting you have there. i would make sure it doesnt stay in the house year round. it needs sun, it is a cactus wich are drought tollerant. itl prob look a lil bit better if on the patio. oh yeah dont overwater it. try n let it dry out. thats what it does in nature. im a plant nerd guess ya got that from my screen name

buy a bag of small size wood chips. cover the entire top of the soil about 2 inches thick. it will hold moisture in meaning less watering and the sun wont get through so the weeds wont grow up. weeds are the worst thing for potted plants. i call em water stealers.

Thanks for the ID! Its super cool. But its s'posed to smell like rotting meat? :yuck:

And about your name, for the longest time I pronounced it "surfpalmcyanide." lol. So "cycads" are plants? lol

yeah since yours is indoors the odor may be at a minimum wich is good for you. outdoors it will smell stronger to get flys to pollinate. cycads are plants that originate all over the world. they have been around even before dynos walked the earth. there usualy grouped together with palm trees and other tropicals and marketed that way too. you wouldnt see them in your state. there usualy a zone 10-11 but some can take frost.
