This isn't really about what you catch, but how do you guys collect? I usually just use some small butterfly nets I bought at walmart but I'm looking to upgrade to a nice dipnet

I catch 98% of my fish with a 4' seine and the other 2% with a minnow trap! Those traps really don't produce for me as much as they do for other people lol.

I went to the beach today to see if I can find any eggs. I did find one but it was all dried out. I chose a bad time to go. It was the start of the incoming tide so everything that was washed up on the beach was all dried out and eaten by the birds. The best time to go will be soon after the high tide. It is a good sign that I found one. They should be popping up more often in a few weeks.

I went to a different beach to check out the skate egg situation. I found a few eggs. One of them was completely closed but empty. The second one was completely closed but had a hole in the side of it. I am assuming a bird got to this one before me. Hopefully the mother load of embryos will take over the beach pretty soon. Once memorial day comes around the cleaning crew cleans all the crap that washes up making things a little harder.

The beautiful beach

Sponge

A large Oyster shell

Part of a horseshoe crab

Tons of macroalgae. Green, brown and reds. I saw at least 6 different types.

I forgot what this is.

The bag of goodies I took home from the beach. As I was running the bag popped and I lost all my water. I have a bunch of extra Camelbacks and will start to bring those. I am not sure how great they are all doing. If you look at the bottom of the bag you can see tons of dead pods and mysis shrimp.

I found this thing. It is a snail shell with some purple fuzzy stuff encrusting it. When I touched it the fuzzy stuff will retract.

A hermit decided to use it as his shell.

I am glad you enjoy the pictures. There is a great white a few miles off the shore of the beach I posted pictures from.

Here are a few interesting videos from the bay. Skates aren't really in this area.

Here are a bunch of washed up bluefish. I live in a very populated area and there is a nice large golf course with some nice landscaping in the bay. When it rains the run off water has lots of fertilizers in it which causes an algae bloom, which reduces the O2 levels in the water, which cause fish to die. At first I thought it was because of an oil spill in the Hudson River. Now I think it is because of an algae bloom. I took this video 2 days ago.

I went back yesterday to see if there were anymore dead fish. I didn't see any new fish but there were a few from the day before. I did see a bunch of horseshoe crabs having sexual intercourse. At first I was at the bottom of the boat ramp and only saw 2. As the horseshoe crabs moved further away I saw a third one trying to get in on the action turning it into a manage a twas. I moved to the top of the pier to get a better view and saw there were several horseshoe crabs getting lucky. I stumbled across a horseshoe crab swingers party. There were only a few females getting harassed by a bunch of horny males.

The top video is from the ramp and the bottom video is from the top of the pier. There is a rumor that horseshoe crabs can't navigate out of a corner. In this video you can see that it is just a myth.

I haven't really been to the beach were the eggs will be. I was running at the bay and noticed a turtle. I went to look closer and it's head was trapped underneath a brick. When I lifted the brick the terrapins head was call cut up and bloody and the terrapin wasn't moving. The terrapin also had a big dent in his head. I thought it was dead. I dug a hole filled it with water and put the terrapin in it. After 20 minutes the terrapin started moving a little. I took it home cleaned it's cuts with peroxide and kept it in a storage bin for a few days. After a day it started to become more active and most of it's cuts healed up. In with 2 days he just had a small scab on his head and a dent. He was very active. I then dropped him back were I found him. The top pictures are the newer ones.

The water by me is screwed up. A few weeks ago I saw a ton of dead fish washed up on the shore. Apparently there are tons of pollutants and/or very low oxygen levels killing off a lot of the fish. I started a thread here when I first saw the dead fish. Now the problem is starting to make it into the news. The thread has a bunch of the news articles embedded in it, if anyone is interested.
