That's weird they come out so developed. I wonder why they don't have a pinkie stage like regular mice. Cute little guys :)

Yeah, spinies are very developed when they're born. They are born fully furred and with their eyes open. The gestation period is longer than normal mice, but the period of maternal care is significantly shorter. The week-old babies I have now are already trying solid food:eek:.

I haven't even found homes for the new babies yet, and it looks like the mama mouse's already pregnant again!
 
Second litter was given away today. Mom and dad got a brand new home too! I moved them and the new baby into a 20 gal long.
they seem to be enjoying it.

I'm in southern Virginia, and I might have a friend who will want some. She has rats right now, but she has a small rodent setup that she's been wanting to use.
