the dude is from Florida and it seems as though hes on good terms with Snookn. I think hes just trying to promote Snookn's fish in a silly fashion.

Anyways, i have a few of Rapps Orinos and i was wondering if you or anybody had any pictures/information about Rio Meta Orinos. Ive seen a few variants of Orinos but ive never seen ones from Rio Meta. it seems like nobody has any pics of cichla from Rio Meta either. The different variants of orinos got me really curious as to what these guys will turn into. If these werent collected in the wild i want to ask Jeff if i could see a picture of the Breeders he uses for his baby Orinos or if he has any pictures of adult Rio Meta Orinos but i doubt he would send me that kind of information.
These are 100% from the wild, as this is what Jeff advertised. He wouldnt say they were wild if they werent. When they were first listed for sale, he didnt state a collection point as he didnt know, the shipper wasnt willing to release the info because of the legalities.

Jeff himself said he was a bit surprised when he was finally able to find out they were from the Rio Meta as he didnt think it was possible for his shipper to get Orinos from that far west.

As for what they look like, we'll just have to wait and see! If you look at Rapps for-sale thread in his section, youll see that another member posted pics of what these guys should look like. Either way, I think we will like the results

I re-edited my post.

haha yeah, i read through that thread and saw the pictures of what they should turn into. I was just hoping to see a full body shot of a real meta orino.

I've noticed that a few of my orinos have different spot patternts than some of the others (diamonds vs. circles), and I've noticed that jcardona1 also has a few as well.

Do you think they could grow up looking different or will they end up looking the same?

from talking to a creditable buddy of mine, whom really doesn't deal with the hoopla of what river system they came from, which I have not seen people really pay to much attention to until recently. Orinos and many have know came down to two generic terms...Columbians and Venz....many would say Venz had the circle and Bians had the diamonds or vise vera...but I have seen many photos of so called Bians with circles and some with diamonds and Venz with diamonds and not circles...But the major difference is with the size....don't remember exact numbers but I know that Venz grow larger then Bians. Its just weird saying people asking for specific river systems, I've seen these called Rio Meta Orinos but not once called Columbian Orinos, nothing wrong and no knock to anyone that enjoy knowing to extra tid bit but what does it really mean? but don't get me wrong, not saying that there are only 2 types of orinos or nothing like that and I can understand why kelberis would be stressed in this fashion but when it come to others, not as nessasary

yeah thats what i love about orinos; theyre patterns/colors can be so different even though they the same species. an orino from one river can look totally different than one from another. most of my orinos have the diamond pattern. i do have one though, that his patterns are more circle-shaped and his dorsal fin is solid blue. unfortunately though, you cant use this to find out where they come from. the only way to know is to know where it was collected.

i always use these pics as an example. these are my friends orinos. notice how one has the diamond patterns and has red in the fins. then look at the other one, circle patterns and no red in his fins whatsoever. both look very different, but they both sick!!

oh yeah and another thing...i've been keeping up with this tread and the other talking about rapps stock having ick...I know that my 6 had a few spots...and with out doubt, hesitation, or worry, I just acclimated the little guys, and bump temp to 90, made sure that the was tons of airaetion, added some salt and man'd up. Now the is gone and seem like the majority of everyone's orinos are shaking it off as well. People just need to :chillpill:, do what they know, or read what they need to know and act accordingly, this ain't SWINE FLU fellas...more like the common cold.

JC....this one is my all time fav!!!! Classified as a Venez orino

i think why it matters to most is because of the coloration, as with any other cichla species dont you think? i really cant think of another reason why some folks get excited over cichla from a certain region/river system. i would say its because fish from certain areas exhibit more desirable colors than the same species from a different area.

me, i call them rio meta as thats why i got used to since rapps posted them as such. rio meta runs through columbia, so Columbian orinos works for me. river or country makes no difference to me. but from what i have seen/read is that Columbian orinos are the ones that get the better colors. and then we got what tyrano said:

The Rio Meta has some of the best-looking orinocensis, especially as adults. The juveniles turn into super-spangled adolescents and get green as green can be. Nice import, Jeff.

I hope tyrano is right...lol...check this out...Peru monos are peru monos even though there are many rivers in peru. Guyana Ocells are Guyana Ocells though their are many rivers in Guyana. Pinimas are pinimas, Venez Tems and tems, etc...... I underdstand why people want to know but how much does it really mean? Pretty sure within your sweet collection of orinos, with would be sweet to know which river system they came and pretty much can say that they are not all from the same but does it change anything if two or three of them are...just seem to be a good FYI IMO...but i think that my little just good FIY flies out the door with Kelberis...lol...i think because of scats
