^ Whats the difference? besides the one on bottom is much nicer.. are they both Orinos?
yeah theyre both orinos. they just from different places and look different. Atapabo on top, and Sipapo on the bottom. Thats why i say its nice to know what you are getting and where its coming from :)

yeah thats what i love about orinos; theyre patterns/colors can be so different even though they the same species. an orino from one river can look totally different than one from another. most of my orinos have the diamond pattern. i do have one though, that his patterns are more circle-shaped and his dorsal fin is solid blue. unfortunately though, you cant use this to find out where they come from. the only way to know is to know where it was collected.

Your Orinos collection is getting amazing. :nilly:
Found something you may be interested.

Orinos can be found in the following major places.
rio meta in Columbia.
rio orinoco in Venezuela
rio casiquire canal between border of Venezuela and Brazil
rio Negro in Brazil.

Some conclusion based on cichla mitochondia studies suggest:

1. orinos in Venezuela are closely related to intermedia genetically.
This may explain orinos from Venezuela got that intermedia look and background coloration.
2. orinos found in these places mentioned above have different genetic made up thru migration and hybridization.
3. Those orinos pictures with solid circles are exclusively FOUND in rio Negro. Funny that they are closer related to Cichla mono and ocellaris than orinos found in Venezuela.
