Found something interesting on Cichla feeding in nature.
Article title:

in Volta Grande reservoir, River Grande (MG/SP)

Three categories, according to a previously established scale, indicated the repletion degree:
1 = empty stomach, ( light bar )
2 = half-full stomach, and ( gray bar )
3 = full stomach (Braga, 1990). ( black bar )
IMO: the argument is NOT how much you feed your fish, but what percentage of time during the day your fish's stomach is FULL and Empty.
In another word and according to this research, in nature environment Cichla are found to have empty stomach more than 50% of time.
The huger will keep your fish very alert and in attacking mode. During your SPOT feeding schedule, you can of course feed as much as your fish can take.
From my experience, cichla actually take more food with spot feeding schedule than with food constantly available to them. By the end of the day they actually
consume more food that way. Again, just my thought.
