Found something interesting on Cichla feeding in nature.
Article title:
Feeding of introduced species of Cichla (Perciformes, Cichlidae)
in Volta Grande reservoir, River Grande (MG/SP)

http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?pid=S1519-69842004000500008&script=sci_arttext

Three categories, according to a previously established scale, indicated the repletion degree:
1 = empty stomach, ( light bar )
2 = half-full stomach, and ( gray bar )
3 = full stomach (Braga, 1990). ( black bar )

IMO: the argument is NOT how much you feed your fish, but what percentage of time during the day your fish's stomach is FULL and Empty.
In another word and according to this research, in nature environment Cichla are found to have empty stomach more than 50% of time.
The huger will keep your fish very alert and in attacking mode. During your SPOT feeding schedule, you can of course feed as much as your fish can take.
From my experience, cichla actually take more food with spot feeding schedule than with food constantly available to them. By the end of the day they actually
consume more food that way. Again, just my thought.

thats really good information. i believe the information was taken from just one area though, an area with ocellaris and monocs only. Im sure the information would be different for other species and areas. Even then, any type of baby cichla needs to be fed constantly, or at least as much as it wants to eat.

yea exactly what james said. theirs my scientific evidence. *high five*

:screwy: first of all. you started off wondering why people are wanting to grow fish to fast and that fish need to be fed in moderation. James research pretty much basically states, to STUFF your fish here and there, NOT FEED IN MODERATION. So you can stop swinging on his nizuts!

So please explain to me how he proved your point.

i really dont know why your all so obsessed with getting them big so fast. its not a race. I dont have any proof behind me but i would think in the wild they would only find food as they do not very slimly not excessivly. in moderation, maybe thats an aspect to why they look nice?

:screwy: why not? whats wrong with wanting your fish to grow fast and achieve their color potential quicker? its not like were giving them hormones or something

CichlaRyan;3172115; said:
i belive that just like people eating exessivly can cause problems not in a quick manner but in the long run it may effect them some how. in the wild they visit a turbulence of food so its kept in moderation. bottom line, power feeding can casue health deffects.

IMO. not proven so but just what i think, or do would you rather view only what you think?

jcardona1;3172132; said:
and IMO power feeding has no negative effects. both views arent supported by any scientific evidence, so we'll just leave it at that

This is a direct quote from what i said.

F.Y.I like james said In another word and according to this research, in nature environment Cichla are found to have empty stomach more than 50% of time. I also stated that in the wild they would find food in moderation( nuetral amount so they are neither full nor empty) maybe playing a roll in their appearance. Alas, you derail and flame an opinion of mine meant to have provoked no one. Some took it maturly and simply said why they want to get their fish bigger without rude comments. Others like to start things and get into problems. which one are you?;)

PS: Nizuts? what?????

Its like drinking alcohol. I would not call, getting trashed here and there as oppose to getting drunk daily. I would not consider that moderation.

seems like you felt as if you proved your point, or should i say james proved your point. But what is your point? to feed in moderation or understanding why people are wanting their fish to grow so fast:confused:

I might just be jumping the gun but from the quote above, seems to me like, with what James provided, you've proved everyone wrong.
