The real BATMAN

If its a recessive gene and not a birth defect, you could inbreed it.

You would have the white tiger of the fw aquaria world. Not that's a good thing, but quite profitable.

Why euthanize?
because it takes resources from another potentially healthy ray ( Mike is not in this just for the fun, he needs to make $$'s and not have charity cases eating any profits, and rays ain;t cheap to raise) )
From a health point of view everything about batman rays is undesirable. Why attempt to breed something so terminally messed up? Everyone agrees it is a defect.

So what if somebody just wanted to give it a good home and happy life, outside of breeding?

Still kill it?

hes really nice

If it is a healthy ray let it live. I hope it finds a good home.
It has character.
No single person is the same and neither are rays.

If Mike even sells it, I dont doubt it will find a great home! :)

without a doubt some schmuck will breed for the defect, if not with this ray then with others, in fact some already are trying to. Look at the discus world, high body ( Gan's) were a deformed spine. Butterflies were a defect with no tail but hyped as desirable, there's other examples too with discus and with other species. Don;t you just adore those bug-eyed goldfish that can;t swim due to breeding defects. A lot of the same guys are now the ones producing ray hybrids all over the place.

In rays the batman defect is what is visible, what other internal problems are associated? I would love to see a skilled autopsy done on one for comparison.
All I'm sayin' is; its a "slippery slope" not culling or even breeding defects , and some bonehead will still try to make some bucks from breeding batmans. As soon as this one is out of Mike's hands it is out of his control and the temptation to become Dr Moreau for $$'s is often hard to resist. In the wild nature would cull this ray P.D.Q.

Agreed.

Just little update, Same female gave birth to three more pups tonight. One also has a slight V shape at front of disk and other two look normal to me.

I am still not convinced that breeding this ray will pass the defect on to it's offspring but I am just making a wild assumption. If it was more like a cleft lip that is not something that is passed on to children is it? So not sure this would be any different. If I do decide to let ray go it will be to a very responsible ray keeper so we can all see the ray grow and mature. It will not go into some secret goverment breeding program lol I promise that.
