The real Falkneri

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice, but I too will take the others.:)

There's NO Falk in this thread.

This is Fishdog's lady Jag at 7-8 inches. These pics are several years old.

People seem to think it's hard to differentiate the 2. It's not. One simple comparison of the eyes and it's obvious. There's several differences, disk shape, base color, eye's and how uniform the dots are all seem to be very different between the species, not to mention locale. I inquired about this ray being a Falk when I bought it and was informed that where the 2 species come from is so far apart that it would be impossible. This was reconfirmed by the seller of the Falks. I was told the Falks make a really long journey and a majority of the price they command has to do with transportation.

I'm not some arm chair expert that has studied pics of OTHER PEOPLES rays. I raised what I consider to be one of the best looking Jags I've ever seen from a juvy to an adult. I'm not a scientist or a biologist, but by gum, I gots me a pair of eyes that work sub par and the differences are still very noticeable.

Are they 2 different species? Are BDs and Leos 2 different species? Who really knows or cares? We know they look different depending on where they come from, so it's safe to say they are locale variants to say the least.

I really thought about raising a Jag with the Falks but after getting the Falks here and seeing them, I see no reason to try to prove a point to people that have already formed thier narrowminded opinions. I sent pics to Fishdog after I got the Falks and he seemed to think there was pretty obvious differences too, so until someone can prove otherwise by obtaining thier own I'm perfectly content with the observations.

There's very little info available on Falks. That's half the reason they appeal to me so much. I miss my old Jag like crazy, I've always said that these rays posses the best personality of ANY ray I've ever had, I had high hopes for the Falks to posses the same personality, and I can happily say they do posses that personality. VERY active, busy rays, very tough, and aggressive eaters once established.

well said. but remember haters are always going to hate and come up with their own theories when they have too much time sitting in front of the computer, but i dont care if they are falks jags or retics if its a nice ray its a nice ray.... and with that being said can you please go and take your time on getting us some good pics of your falks now that you made me feel cheated ;) dont get me wrong that is a beutiful jag (fishdog) but i would like to see more of the real falks. it took you a long time and alot of effort to get them idc what the haters say i want to see a type i dont get to see often. im tired of just seeing mainly black rays posted and would like some of that variety please!

Very well said. I will get some more pics once I get home. They're all back together again in the blue bottomed tank. The 2 aurnrier rays were in a low light black backed black sand tank. The brighter male and female looked almost the same when they arrived. Was quick to seperate the weaker one hoping to see a change in pattern and there's definetly a huge difference between them now. Seems the blue bottom does them well.

I'm very happy to have them. Been in love with them since the first time I saw Seichii's. Hoping I can have half as much luck breeding them as Mike's had with his Jags. Pure or hybridized I'd be happy with any kind of CB Falks.

All I can say is I see a pup swap coming down the road :naughty: I think you and I will always have what the other one wants. I have dreamed of falks forever even have one as my desktop right now. Just keep them happy and content and who knows you might be the only source of pure falk pups down the road. That would carry more clout then being a marble breeder LOL

I wouldn't be suprised if there's someone else out there (besides Mr. Ross) that will beat me to pups. A much more successfull breeder, that has bigger Falks, and a much better source water.

But you have my word I'll do my best to try to get them producing.

These threads are pointless.

They are ALL falkneri now.

Falkneri and castexi are one species now with falkneri being the valid species name.

Its all documented here: http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S1679-62252011000100021

Did you even read this thread?

Seems to be some confusion on how to tell them apart. No different then BD vs Leo.

Aren't all threads in the Ray media lounge "pointless"? At least someone could learn something from seeing examples of both species instead of a thread about a new ray.

It's like friggin politics around here. isn't it supposed to be about the animals and not the stupid names associated with them? Everyone calls everything something different, no different then trade names vs scientific, or made up BS grading systems.

Simply sharing pics of experiences with 2 different "varients" of Castexi or I mean Falkneri. Is that pollitically correct enough? :)

Thought since there was some confusion why not throw out some pics of both so others can see?
