The single biggest regret in my life...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If it makes you feel any better I manage a fresh water section in a fish store and the job sucks. Has killed my entire love for the hobby - when I get home the last thing I want to do is think about fish. The owner is a jerk, being by Beverly Hills we get a lot of stuck up customers that treat us like crap - and the job itself is all around stressful.

This is coming from some one who was a medic in the Army - I handle stress pretty well, but this job has put me at my wits end more times than I can count.

Keep fish as a hobby, not a business - you will end up hating most of it sooner or later. It really is not all it's cracked up to be.

I did!!..:D:ROFL:
I had to do W/C's
and
I am self employed!

Self employed? :headbang2 I think that's the path I want to take. Although it seems like everyone I know that is self employed is struggling, who isn't? Besides I have trouble staying motivated working for someone.

Dude if you could sit in the seat of people who are self employed you would see that is the best part of the deal :headbang2.

Sitting back at the end of the day knowing that you exist for another day.

IF THERE IS NO CHANCE OF FAILURE YOU ARE NOT TAKING ENOUGH RISK!

Only things you have to remember are:

Are you the type of employee that you WOULD hire and pay well?
Then hire yourself, and pay yourself well!

I'd like to think so, but in all honesty, I don't think I've EVER really applied myself so it's hard to say.

As a 15 y/o who sees monster tanks and fish on MFK but has no tank larger than a crappy 55g, I can say that it sucks to be poor :P

Been waiting since last summer to get a new 75 or 90 but I still don't have it yet =\

i worked for 6 years in the trade and it ruined my passion for the hobby.

when i started I didn't really know anything about the hobby and spent the first few years soaking up loads of info - it was great.

but you need more money to live on and with that comes more responsibility. As you move higher up you lose touch with the part you love, the fish.

Also don't fool yourself into thinking that all fishkeepers know or care as much as you do. Dealing with the general public is incredibly testing and quite insane!
