Oh, I saw a rocket gars-they're pretty fishes, very similiar to true gars...mmmh,they are should be better, right?But...they aren't gars
!I think are caracins right?

If you decide to go for the fake gars, dont go for den Hujeta, it sucks and is damn ugly. Go for the Boulengerella Maculata instead. They are so cool and without doubt my favorite fish.

I bouth a "Alligator Gar" from a European importer. The gar turned out to be a Florida/spotted, witch makes me happy. Try and check if it really is Alligator gars they are selling at your importer.

Boulengerella and 'hujeta' gars are generally the same thing.


as for gars with a jardini, this is never really a good idea, so i would highly suggest against it. regardless of size (unless the gar can EAT the jardini) the jard will end up picking on the gar and killing it or just stressing it out to the point where there is no need to keep the gar. skip that combo.

ask your importer for a photo of the gar you're going to get and we can ID it for you. as stated earlier, chances are it will be a Florida/spotted anyway since a ton of importers, suppliers, and LFS call any gar 'alligator gar'--

the shortest gar is the shortnose gar, i think gets to like 24" in the wild... but probably shorter in an aquarium.
