Thanks, it does look like Snappy is a "she". Is it the difference in the distance between the plastron and the vent that I'm looking for?

yes. and the plastron of the female seems to come to a slight point as to where the male seems to be more blunt.

ive always wanted an alligator snapper, but i wouldnt even know where to begin looking for one. plus, i live in mass, where like everything is illegal to keep as a pet.

yeh mines like 3-4" too...i think they are still too young to tell...i could be wrong?
