Is it a common? They only open their mouth to feed (or when threatened). Only gator snappers sit with their mouth open.

umm..it looks just like armands snapper......look page 4 for pics of mine...

Hey everyone, just joined recently and decided to hang out here till i'm more knowledgable about some of these monter fish haha. Currently i have a 75 gal tank with two Alligator Snappers. hoping to find some fish to hang around in the tank with them and won't get eaten haha.

The lights should turn on in about 2 hours but you can see him in the far end hiding in the darkness. He gets more active later in the day. Feel free to check him out 24/7!

PS: If there's more than 4 people in the chat, you may not see the feed. There's a limit on the amount of viewers at one time.

Hi.

Then we are talking about an Alligator Snapping Turtle Macroclemys Tenminicki. This turtle opens its mouth when hunting or when feels threathened.

Haven't you watch it hunt at anytime?.

They remain liyng down at the bottom of the tank with their mouth wide opened waiting a fish to approach then snap on it...

When I run out of minnows i give my turtle caryfish, white fillet or squid fillet, it seems to accept those options quite well.

When my turtle has eaten enough it lies down on a rock and do not open the mouth til it is hungry again and there are fish around.

Maybe your turtle has been feeding on others food sources like the mentioned above therefore not it is not hungry and doesnt feel like opening the mouth.

Cheers.

make sure to feed it other foods too, such as reptomin or veggies if possible. what type of feeders are you providing? goldfish are bad, they're full of fat. rosey red minnows are decent but most of thiamine, and many other feeders as well. too much thiamine can be bad so make sure you provide other food sources

also that live webcam is sick! wish i could make one for my tank haha
