The start of some thing new (: "nano" Pictures

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks good; the water should clear up in no time. I'm guessing that you used water from the previous setup in order to make the transition easier?

Also, how's that urchin holding up? I never had any luck with them; they always seemed to die off after a couple of months despite receiving ample food. Hopefully yours will hold up.

its holding up pretty well but in the old tank it shaded a couple spikes but its doing good what coral would you recommend??

It's good to hear that it's doing well.

I'm not sure on the coral since I'm not really a coral person (more of a FOWLR person), but I'd stay away from ones that need high-powered lights because you have a standard BioCube rather than the one with metal halides.

yeah that one was too much i got this cheap brand new too for 130 i didnt want to wait until christmas so i used the money i saved for coral and just brought it but what fish would you recommend?

i have this all black damsel that has yellow tail and fin but dont know what its called and i want something that would pull people to the tank and can live with coral

I'd take that damsel back to the LFS because its going to be pretty aggressive towards other fishes thereby making it unsuitable for having tankmates; it will pretty much max out your bioload at its full size anyway.

For starters, I'd get a goby that forms a symbiotic relationship with a pistol shrimp; maybe a yellow prawn goby and a snapping shrimp. Those two will give you an interesting set of nano bottom dwellers. I'd also get a firefish to add some action to the middle to top areas of the aquarium. You might be able to add one more fish, but that's pretty much it; you have to really limit yourself to small peaceful fishes in an aquarium that size. Also, your LFS should be able to order in those fishes for you no trouble at all, so I wouldn't worry about ordering them online (unless you want to go that route).

okay maybe clowns?? with firefish or some what round ther?

Probably not on the clowns; they can get territorial. I had one that would chase around its tankmates and even its "mate" which it eventually killed and fed to its anemone. Something like this yellow clown goby would fit the bill nicely; they're pretty small and are peaceful and colorful. You're looking at mostly gobies and other small fishes when it comes to stocking a nano aquarium; I'd avoid overstocking since you want corals, too.
