You can write off up to $300 on your taxes in Cali. You will go over this easily but thats the max.

Birds will be tough since they are noisy, require more attention then most pets. I almost got a bird but I remember that somehow they were not allowed in my district because of disease and cleanliness. Reptiles and fish are much more manageable.

In CA you need a BA in the subject you are teaching and a teaching credential. Once you get your first job you will be required to go through another teacher training program called BITSA, taken through your district. The pay scale is based on education so if you get an MA/PhD you will get paid more. Knowing Spanish will make you more marketable. Also being a male in a predominantly female market will be to your advantage. Not sure about middle school requirements but going through the credential program I was required to student teach in BOTH lower and upper grades. Getting your own class depends on you, many in my class, including myself had a job before I even graduated. Make lots of contacts during your student teaching and go to every teacher/educational career fair you can, bring lots of copies of your resume and ready to interview on the spot!!!!

Another word of advice would be to look into scholarships etc to help you pay for school. They are definitely out there. Example being the Apple Grant will pay for ALL your school if you give them a few years at certain poverty stricken schools.

Any more questions?

Ohhh ya!!! LETS CELEBRATE EVERYBODY WE HAVE THE ENTIRE WEEK OFF FOR TURKEY DAY!!!!!! (for some strange reason I actually get a week and an extra day off - lol)

You get a whole week off for Thanksgiving¿

We get Wednesday and Thursday off only. I had to use both my personal days (we get two) plus I got my principal to teach my class for the day. It´s worth it though, as I'm writing this from sunny Acapulco¡¡¡

I'll post some fish pictures when I get home :)

Not a week, but a week and a day! Not sure why we get the extra day BUT hey, everyday counts right? If anything you could just look at it as we get out later in the year but doesnt matter to me, we still get 3 months off!

Have fun in MX Dan, try not to pet to many tigers!

One more day til a little break. Gr8, you better go do something fun and stupid with all this time on your hands.

Man, last day before Thanksgiving break. Done with grades, watching the same video in each class. Cool vid, just not 5 times in a row. Oh well, gives me some MFK time.
The video is pretty neat though, Great Whites, Outside the Cage!!! Awesome footage, keeps the kids awake.

is that from "mysteries of the deep... the best of undersea explorer"?

We just watched that in aquaculture the other day.

How come I never got to watch such movies when I was in school?

When i was in 6th grade I always voulenteered to run the projector... it was the only way I could hear the science films LOL.

note: for the youngsters, Film was what we used before everone had VHS
note on the note: VHS is what we used before everyone had DVD
note on the note on the note: DVD is like a low res version of Blue Ray
