Nah i dont think so. and even if they do work at petsmart (such as me). if they are on this site they're probably not the average idiot u find working at a petsmart.

The Walmart by me is getting rid of fish. I am trying to see if I can buy their setup:D

.

My 1 referal is a petsmart employee who felt I had run silly cricles around him and their store as far as proper information/care goes :)
Walmart as a whole is getting rid of fish. The setups will not be sold or given away so far as I have seen.

How do you know that Platies are not much more nutritious that goldfish?

Not saying you are wrong. Just wondering how you know.

Also, are you saying that all fish are nutritionally useless unless they are gutloaded? If that is what you are saying, then what about fish eating fish in the wild? Carnivores don't have the luxury of eating a "gut-loaded" fish in the wild.
In the wild smaller fish eat on a regular basis, in captivity, many fish from fish stores are malnourished to keep them near the front of the tanks. Nutritionally speaking, a goldfish isn't made up of things that are that different then a platy or molly or guppy, or tetra, or any other fish. The composition is slightly different, but for the most part the same.

With over 25,000 members, a couple members are bound to work in the area we all enjoy. Petsmart and petco both have fish... you do the math.

If 1% of MFK worked at petco, that would be 250 members...

How do you know this? Have you tried also?

I think mrpleco hit the nail on the head. Its a chain if you get a clerk that knows something Bonus!I watch the flyers for really good sales(like $1 a gallon tanks!woot!),thats the only time chain fishstores see me or my money. These stores hold no interest for me,I get supplies and food online, most of my fish from auctions.Prices and quality much better if you do it that way.
I have one privatly owned fish store I get fish from, mostly on credit from juvies I bring in.

Not all are bad. I buy alot of my common fish from there and more specialty fish at lfs. And you know what? The fish I buy from the lfs have more disease and death rates than the ones I buy from petco/petsmart. I don't have a ton of money to waste on overpriced items so I appreciate the lower prices of the chain stores. Bad fish selection and sick fish can happen at a lfs just as much as at petco/petsmart. If they have good fish buy them, if not don't. Just don't bash a chain store because it is a chain store.

In a sense, carnivoures in the wild do eat gut loaded fish.
As WyldFya explained, smaller fish have less trouble finding a substantial amount of food, thus eat more often. Then when Mr. Dovii comes along and eats a little fish, he gets the nutrition from that fish, plus whatver the little sword got.

Our local petstore (pet supplies plus) has ALL the information on their website. It's all really well-researched, but their employees do not know anything about it!!

They don't know the animals, and here this company has ALL of the information, and they're not telling their associates about it!! I talked to the MANAGER and she had no idea!!

Most of the responsibility lies on the customer, if they did their research, then they wouldn't have a problem. But I don't understand how someone could work in a petstore, and not look up the right information on the animals they sell. There's always room for habitat improvement, so why don't they take the initiative.

If you're determined enough to take the tests, watch the videos, and do the reading, then you should be determined enough to follow up your information!!

No petstore is perfect. But someday, I will own my own store, and it will be staffed by knowledgeable people who care about what they're selling!!

:iagree: I have 2 Petsmarts near me and they are like night and day when it comes to healthy fish. One always has dead fish in the tanks and the other one I have only seen one dead fish and the water in the tanks is pristine . I am not crazy about Petsmarts but I really don't have a choice when it comes to buying fish. The LFS I trade plants and fish to for supplies but very rarely buy fish from them because their tanks are disgusting and always have dead fish in them.
