Maybe post in the DIY section, with a picture and description of the pond and enclosure. You might get an ingenious answer that we aren't thinking of.

You could get a pump for the waterfall filter for less than $100 though. And it could be submersible.

Nice! Have you though about maybe using sod as a substrate? that would make it look awesome and keep it clean too. Just a thought.

That's actually a pretty good idea. Do a 1-2" layer of dirt, then cover with sod. The only thing is you might need to keep it watered pretty well for the first week or two so that it doesn't all die off.

one problem with that idea. how the hell am i supposed to trim grass in a caiman enclosure? :nilly: thats asking to get bit. not that i care when its little(will still hurt like a b****) but when she is 4 ft! eek!

man, looking at those pictures, sittin in the pond, just seein it in general, its amazing to see!! looks great and i cant believe how it has came together.

ps if anybody in pa, WHEN ITS DONE, wants to see it pm me and im sure we can arrange something(VF, Msjinkzd or anybody else hint hint)

I'm guessing you're not going to have the brightest, strongest lighting in there, so the grass shouldn't be growing very quickly. Plus, it would probably make the caiman feel safer to have a little bit of overgrown grass to walk through and hide in. It shouldn't get too tall depending on what type of grass you got. Plus it would look pretty natural.

Another option would be to just make a couple of small grassy area's separated by mulch paths. That would reduce the amount of potential grass trimming, and still leave plenty of open mulched space.
