Just FYI: Wal-Mart doesn't own the shops in the front of their stores. It's probably a nail salon owned by Southeast Asian immigrants that really have no idea the fish is illegal here.

yes, walmart does have independent shops within their stores!

i was talking to my friend/coworker today and as it turns out the owners of this fish have a permit for it, and apparently they come to the store i work at to buy feeders so hopefully i will get to meet them someday

An import permit issued by the Management Authority of the State of import is required. This may be issued only if the specimen is not to be used for primarily commercial purposes and if the import will be for purposes that are not detrimental to the survival of the species. In the case of a live animal or plant, the Scientific Authority must be satisfied that the proposed recipient is suitably equipped to house and care for it.

Has anyone in the US applied to import a CITES animal as a pet? I found the form for it...

General public will not be issued permits for keeping Asian Arowana in the US. End of story. Got a better chance of getting a private owned bald eagle. Apply all you want.
