hello; I do get this and have know a few folks who feel the same way. Not wanting snails is fine and a personal choice.some folks just plain and simple don't like snails.
I was trying to point out that a very large snail population, one that becomes unsightly and may even jam impellers, is related to excess food in a tank. I have had MTS out and about in droves during daytime and often clogging up my power filters. Also ramshorn snails everywhere. Just too much food.
If all the snails in a tank are killed or some how removed then the issue of excess food will remain. A very aggressive WC and vac schedule is a possible remedy.
In the few tanks I have run without snails it was useful to have some small bottom feeders. Cory cats are good. I especially like the kuhli loaches as they can and do get into very tight places. These are small fish and bite sized for some bigger fish.
I have gone to two or more fasting days each week for adult fish. I came by this over many years of being gone for a few days from time to time. Even when I was still overfeeding I would come back to find my tanks looked much better. The fish had scoured up the more fresh excess food
