I think it is a stupid add that invites inexperienced fish owners to buy a really magnificent fish. Anyone who is considering buying the fish because of the add...is helping to place exceptional and vulnerable beings into the hands of Rambo wanna' be's. These fish are delicate in that their skin is really sensitive. They have smooth skin not scales. They can live to 30 years of age, but I've never met anyone or heard of anyone yet that has one even close. At the same time they will eat anything that is new and small while they eat out of your hands and twirl under your fingers. Ours is roughly 16 years of age. We also have a Pitbull rescue that some idiot put out as a dog fighter. As a result he has cigarette burns on his lips...go figure. Please let's think of the fish here...not the comic book add put out by a sensationalist.

Black ghost knife have no scales...? Look closely at the body of your 16 years old BGK. They have tiny scales. There are even people saying that clown loaches have no scales but in fact they do.:screwy:

You are mistaken. Various sites warn to be careful in medicating BGKs because of their lack of scales.

The ad is a satire, most likely an attempt to lure in buyers past the $50 price tag. Nobody sane could feed a BGK two bald eagles a day, or even believe it to be possible.

We have dissected lots of different species of Gymnotiformes including BGK. They do have scales. It may not be visible when you just look at them closely but look closer and you'll see. It seems like just skin when you touch them, but if you have a chance to have a large specimen of a dead BGK, try to scrape the outer layer and you'll see tiny scales. Or you can use a microscope if you really want to see the scales in larger image. You are 100% mistaken. Lol!

Now that I have researched it more, you are right. What I also came across is a claim that all scaleless fish indeed do have scales, just tiny ones that are more susceptible to parasites and certain chemicals used to treat them. Is this right?
