I am not surprised at all. I kept one black angel with 4 jumbo size Green Terror in a 75 for over a year. I thought the angel wouldn't last for a few days, because if the GT chose to attack her, she was too slow to run or hide. But the GT ignored her completely, as the angel looks unappetizing and non-threatening. Initially, the angel was very timid and hided in the corners for weeks before coming out. Once she got used to the big guys, she showed no fear anymore and competed with the GT for food. Eventually, after a year, she laid eggs on an intake tube and guarded the eggs bravely by attacking the GT. I was afraid she would get hurt by being the aggressor so I sold her in an auction, still commanded high price with a few scars from skirmish with the GT.

There is greater danger to keep angels with tiger barbs and some tetra than with giants as it is enticing for small fish to nip on their trailers.

Really nice fish :)

That's certainly an interesting mix, Tiger. Thanks for sharing!

It wasn't an intentional mix. It was a crazy mix because I had to shut down a tank with a lone angel no place to put. It's like david and goliath when the angel took on the GT. I wouldn't recommend anyone to try it.

another nice thing about angels, are the varieties available...I've seen some stunning german blues, Blacks, Koi; even the silver normal angel looks magnificent.

Probably a lucky thing I don't have available tanks at the moment, haven't had angels in a long while

A large, sturdy angel is no slouch. There's a cichlid guy locally who keeps his adults with big oscars and other aggressive fish in the store. People are always so surprised by it. Most other cichlids ignore them. I've mixed them with almost everything.

Speaking of uncharacteristic behaviors, the only trouble I ever had with angels is when two Uaru amphiacanthoides got upset with one and literally ripped it in half. I'd never seen Uaru act aggressively toward another fish, especially when they weren't spawning or pairing (which these were not). It's the only time I've witnessed something like that from Uaru.

Wow, I would have never expected something like that from Uaru.

all 3 of my gold marbles looked that way but they were siblings from a llocal breeder.

cool story, thanks for sharing i had that big 24" armatus, and it was kept with a couple geo's. the armatus quickly killed one of the geo;'s but the other one would stand up to the armatus to the point i was worried my big bad predator was going to get killed from a peaceful fish..
i agree it is crazy to see different personalities..
