1) live ammonia meters are worthless

2) almost as worthless as having PetCo test your water

noooo. i DIDNT have petco test my water. i BOUGHT a test from there and tested it myself. petco cant take care of their own water. all there fish have ich. so i wouldnt trust them with my water.lol

when i first noticed the cloudy water, the first thing i checked was that all my fish were alive. and i have an amonia and ph meter in my tank and that was fine also. and before i took all the water out i did a full tank test and everything was fine
The fact that the water was cloudy, and then 4 fish died, and then you state that your water params were still o.k. when you tested it after all that happened, I'm sorry but I can't believe that, it just doesn't add up.

Sorry for your loss, but to help you correctly diagnose the problem, we need to hear the complete truth, although I think Miles allready guessed it....that and I'm not going to go into the other problems I see in this story that suggest inexpierence is what really is to blame, however thats why were here to help and educate, so welcome to MFK.

new update on my tank. its been a couple weeks since the incident with the fish dieing but now my water keaps getting cloudy. i keap doin water changes and nothing is helping. and now there is a fishy smell coming from my tank, and my new rtcxtsn has ich. idk what could be wrong. there arnt any dead fish in my tank that would be making the smell? so idk what goin on. help me out

your system is crashing... Most likely algae blooms. Your tank needs to cycle, when you change the water if has to start all over again. Get some bacteria to jump start it again.
