ok so another update. my NEW RTCxTSN died today. it had ich. none of the other fish had it. i have never seen case of ich this bad before. it rotted through his skin so badly in a lot of places that he was bleeding prety bad. it was really a bummer.all my other fish are fine. im pissed

i can offer some hints when we had a similar problem..

we tried lots of things, put a heavy duty canister particulate filter on the tank and ran it for 24 hours.. and it cleared up a little. so my (now ex) hubby ran the filter for several days and it got clear. But as soon as he took the filter off it got cloudy again in a matter of hours.

we did MASSIVE water changes with RO/DI water, and it would clear up and then get cloudy again in 24 - 48 hours.

keep in mind all this time he was doing water testing with the testing kit. he said the ammonia and nitrites and nitrates were all in line. even the TDS meter read less than 300 PPM even with the nasty cloudy water.

then.. at our wits end.. because we really didn't know what else to do, we tried Pimafix. we removed the carbon from the fluval 405, followed the instructions on the Pimafix bottle, 5ml per 10 gallons for 7 days and then do a 25% water change. and it cleared up.. and we thought we had beat it.

but 2 weeks went by and it got cloudy again.. so we did a 50% water change and started the Pimafix cycle over again.

with the tank just barely holding on, and my (now ex) hubby apparently doing things to the tank to just barely keep it safe for a couple months that i didn't know about. He was asked to leave (long story). 3 days after he left the tank crashed.. BIG time..

me and my son did 3 - 50% water changes 24 hours apart, we cleaned EVERYTHING.. or thought we did. the LFS just over the hill stayed open for us to get there just barely after they closed because we called and explained our situation and the owner's first love is fish keeping.

i added 2 of the large tubes of Bio-Spira (Marineland), and pulled out all of the filter pads and changed them, including the foam filters. And what i found.. after all of this time and trouble and losing one of my precious C. Temensis (one of the baby dudes, not my big guys), was a rotten piece of chicken heart stuck to the bottom of one of the foam filters. And the foam filter that it was attached to was covered in an icky sticky rotten smelling slime, (not beneficial bacteria like the other one).

we haven't had a problem with the tank since then.. it's been 4 months. the water is crystal clear, all the water tests are low, including the TDS. I feed the fish far less food and less often now, and i only feed them what they eat. i don't keep putting more food in trying to get some down to the bottom feeders like my (now ex)hubby used to. And yes, i still feed them chicken hearts in their regular rotation, about once a month..

I hope this helps.. i know what it took to fix the problem in my tank. and it may, hopefully, give you something to look for or change in your tank? experience is a great teacher..

oh.. and for ich.. salt and high temps.. 86+ degrees..
