The worst nightmare i ever imagined..happened

Ouch. Sorry Liz. I just read through all 129 posts. At page one I was getting teary eyed, and then it turned into a feel good kind of situation. Your tank did not burn! The Rena would be damaged. They FREAKED out when the concussion of the overloaded generator blew. They had no warning, and we all know pacu are skittish to say the least. You must know your fish did not suffer. The African would not have made it if the tank burned, or was hot enough to fail. They hit the bottom simultaneously after they heard the "boom". I know I am a little late, but I had to get that off my chest. Good luck with the cleanup...And if my memory serves correct, didn't you have a bigger tank on the way?

Im thinking excessive water movement on the surface would allow excess smoke (Carbon Monoxide) to enter, thus harming the fish. But hoods almost eliminate this.

You may want to check the burns on the roof to make sure it wont weaken the wood inside or make paint chip away and fall into any tanks and or pets eat it.

wow... I can only imagine the mess. hopefully most of them recover... I think when I get my tank, I will go custom nice and thick to help the possibility of cracking or breaking

Man Liz this really hurt my heart. I am so sorry to hear but I am glad because this is definitely a situation where it could have been worse. I understand your husbands plight, he knew you were safe and had to know atleast that he tried his best to save them. A friend of mine lost his house to a fire and all the tanks were intact but all his fish died. That was one of the worse things I ever saw. He lost so many fish including some I bought that he had since the 90's. I'm glad this wasant the same for you. I am hurting with you Liz, I know the feeling. They will always be in your heart and that is the silver lining. I wish you the best. If you ever need a hand feel free to ask, not sure how far you are from me but as long as my radio works I drive.

i am so sorry to hear that. i have read all the posts and it is a very sad situation. i hope you can make it through all right and you can salvage whats left. i could only imagine if i lost a fish that i have had for years. there really arent words to express the sorrow i feel for you. good luck with everything
