Liz, im new here but i wanted to tell you that im sorry for the loss of your Pacu's--they were lucky to have a mom like you!

People who don't care for their fish like everyone here does doesn't realize that they truly become part of the family..
 
Liz, as far as the smoke smell goes--if i were you id get someone in to just inspect the house electrically and make sure that everything is ok and that there isnt a chance of a wallfire or something else bad that could happen because of that short--they may also be able to direct you on what to do to get rid of the smell..

but i would definately get things checked out and make sure the house is safe..;)
 
Very, very sorry to hear of the loss of your pets Liz, it was just a week ago at most we were talking about your pacus. I got home from working last night and was so tired when I read this post made a quick reply then slept
and woke to make this post. One person suggested the fire broke the bottom glass, this seems logical as I think your bottom glass was 3/4 thick on that tank, the heat probably broke it. 8 years is quite a while to have them so we understand your heartache. Hope you feel better soon and good luck with your future pets.

you are so right.. it doesn't matter what animal it is or what pet ..big or small ..frog or fish or turtle if you care for them and nurture them they have a place in your heart.. the hard part now is getting over not seeing those bigger then life grins every morning.. i was just looking at the african cichlid that was in the tank when it exploded and wondering to myself if he is thinking about his buddies the pacu.. i am so thank ful he was saved.

Thank you ..so weird worrying about the tank busters and they in the end did not do it at all..i remenber looking at them with the flashlight last night to see if the air bubbler was finally working and they stared back grinning..so sad.
 
i am finally going to get some sleep.. been crying on and off all day and maybe it is time to go to a more pleasant dream land..because when i realize this nightmare is for real i feel so bad for those guys.you know those pangs of instant pain you feel.. at least i hope my dreams will be better then this..god bless and thank you for your Monster fish support.. what a bunch you all are.
 
Liz, at least you and your husband were ok. In my opinion, that's should be the first priority. Fish are replaceable but your lives are not so you still got each other to build another awesome tank when the mess is clean up. I'm so sorry to hear what happen and it's a total nightmare for every fish keepers.
 
Sorry to hear about your loss, I always enjoyed seeing a picture of your two lovable, gentle giants. I am just glad they were your only loss and your not posting the loss of all your fish or worse your husband. My hat goes off to him, going straight down to the basement without a single thought for his own safety (electricity/water). Doing everything in his power to save the fish and never giving it. You have a great husband there, and you have my condolences.

SOOO sorry to hear about your loss some way some how their will be some good out of this . you will be in my thoughts and prayers.On a brighter note Yayyyy for the venustus (mabye that was the good)!!!!!
