The wykii.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wish to one day keep these two species together with a few other species (like aimara, lince, maybe even a ZZ) in a large tank, curious how it is working out for you.

Again to me it depends highly on what you keep it with. I can post some pictures of what my curupira had to do in order to establish dominance over my wyckii. If you'd give me permission to do so on your post. I'm willing to finally share some. I've only took pictures of the bad so I'd give a different side of the story from the usual "wyckii kills everything".

You put it in the 4500? Which one? Not the aggressive one I assume, being thin could be a meal? And seems like it backs up arapaimags observation with wyckii though I find wyckioides to be worse, he said 600g he could keep wyckii with others, wyckioides being larger, you've accommodated the larger need. Look forward to seeing pictures and videos of this and also your in depth observations ;)
Please do, it would be intreasting to see.

Ok, before you look, I'd like to say I've never been much for meds and my tanks have always been like survival of the fittest. That being said, I learned how tough wyckii can be after thinking I was going to lose him.

He sure took a beating, most big cats are pretty tough ive found. So now they get along fine? How's he healed up?

If I'm honest, I'd rather keep him on his own then see mine like that. That's just my opinion.

No one wants to see their fish like this. I appreciate the knowledge (always beats suppositions) and Moe's brutal honesty.

What happened after they figured out their differences, Moe? Yes, my wyckioides is in the "peaceful" (haha) community 4500 gal.

He healed up perfectly. They don't get along completely fine. The wyckii ofcourse doesn't like anyone in his dw sometimes the wolf forgets that. So from time to time you can see the wolf dart away and turn back flaring. But nothing comes of it. The wyckii also avoids the wolf at feeding eating very greedily until the wolf arrives and then goes back to his dw. Other than that, the wyckii comes in second in the hierarchy on the bottom. Odoe second on the top. Wolf is top dog, surprising since he's what I believe to be blind in one eye, if not his vision is surely poor. My Odoe and gold wolf stay towards the top so I've not seen any interaction between them except once with the gold wolf for sure and one time I suspect the wyckii of trying the odoe. My gold wolf is a jerk, likes to hit others when there low, he often tries to dominate the Odoe after water changes, so one time after a little chase from the curupira, the gold wolf took a snap at the wyckii but the wyckii snapped back and that was the end of it. I've not seen the gold try anything again. With the odoe, she fights with the curu rarely, when they do it's literally maybe 2 seconds. So this is why I know it wasn't the curupira, the Odoe uses her speed against the curu, hit and run tactic, if she brawls the curu would dominate easily. One day I was woken up by splashing, by the time I got up it was over, I didn't see no one in the spot but the Odoe, the wyckii had a slender scratch and the Odoe a slight split in the tail fin with maybe a gallon of water on the floor.

As far as keeping the wyckii alone, I'd agree it'd be better in my set up as my tank isn't large by any means. I regretted the purchase strongly after but it was an impulse I've been avoiding for years literally. It finally got to me I guess. I plan to try and rehome the fish eventually. I've never seen one in my area, I had to order the fish from a vendor. Hopefully that may put the demand in my favor. Like I mentioned above to jelly I plan to try to comm the species with other fish one day in something like a 12x6. If my life goes as planned anyway.

At least you sort of managed to keep him with others. As you say, still unpredictable but seems to be doing fine. The information is always good and appreciated.

Didn't see your post, as I said above, the only interactions or behavior caused by the other I see is at feeding and when the wolf finds his way under the wyckiis dw. Outside of the wyckii's dw he doesn't bother anyone really, he snaps at anyone who lays directly in front of his face; he reminds me of a wolf highly except he likes his dw more, wolves I found wandered more, the wyckii stays there until night time and goes back to it throughout the night whereas wolves wander and rest through day and night.

And that's cool to hear, you have to update his thread when you get a chance ;)
