i see these threads all the time on snakebytes and according to brian and all the guys and gals over there most are a complete rumor and even if theyre not the pet industry is so large, especially the herp area, that it wouldnt be passed without a ton of opposition. see i think that in southern states you should need a permit to own a tropical snake as they can thrive there if released and destroy the ecosystem but then again i think any animal should be avalible as long as the owner meets a set of credentials

Pythons make for good news in Florida and some people see "pythons" every where.
Even a large native cornsnake is a python to some and terror rings out lol. My neighbor being one of them.

There is a town in S.Florida called Coral Gables which has banned snakes so it can happen. We looked at a house there before moving to Florida and when read town charter/rules I said "NO WAY".
Granted the cops arent going to storm into your house looking for snakes but on paper its illegal to have one there.

Some politicians who do close to nothing might get on the ban python wagon to say they did something.

I agree they should be legal but few things in place- sold to adults not kids- some type tracking implant which Varinus suggested and makes a lot of sense.

I will never keep one as not for me but like you feel majority of people who keep them are good owners and shouldnt be penalized.

...are there any facts or other information available online about this? These things seem to fly around all the time.

And while many may not agree, maybe not this specifically, but the notion is in the right direction. I'm sick of iguanas, ball pythons, bearded dragons, sav monitors, anoles...whatever being exploited from the pet trade. I would rather see them banned, require permits, or whatever. It will never happen since its a industry and based on business not ethics, oh well. /rant

Working at a chain store for a while made me sick, the things i saw and people i had to deal with who just don't care.
But dont forget that as there are thouse same people and their ways that we both dont agree with, there are just as many that really care about their animals;) Ban thouse animals would hurt both and create lots of sufering. What do you think it would happen if such ban really happen? Thousands of good people automaticly doing something ilegal forsing them to give up their pets to zoos ,shelters, etc, wich would already have their hands full, wich equals MILLIONS of animals being eutanized, dumped and killed. Finely that would encorage the really hard core herp keepers wich wont give up their pets to take their bussignes underground and to turn them into criminals:screwy: Ban them isnt the awnser and would create much more harm then it cures.
I just saw the reptiles you putted on your wish list, how are you supossed to get them if you want to shut down the trade that can bring them to you?

Also, I am pretty sure spamming their email boxes isn't going to help the situation. There should be a vote sometime somewhere for this issue. I was unaware of email being apart of our democratic process.
If what we have is democracy, I would hate to think what you think communism is...

I agree, banning isn't the answer. But some sort of regulation to weed out the careless is necessary.

Uh...yea we still have somewhat a democracy going. I do believe we all just voted a few months back. And we still have a vote in what goes on.

What about some kind of degree to keep some species or even a inspecion;)
